John can he just spray brake parts cleaner on the clutch disk and re-use it? Or would be better to replace it?

If he has it apart,may as well put a new clutch nut o-ring in there?

What sounds like happened,is when you tried to start it befor the new battery,you may have welded the starter relay together.pretty common on k bikes when trying to start with a low bat ...
