That's quite a destination! And quite a load! Perhaps the side panels were removed to lighten the load
BTW, that does not look like an LT to me. It appears to have an RS bellypan. And if you look closely you can read the "RS" part of the decal. And the fairing, although partly blocked, also appears to be an RS. |

You know, Rodger, I think you're right. I didn't notice the RS mirrors either. _________________ 93 LT (x2)

I may be wrong, but I think it is a hard core lady.

That is Shoganai from ADV Rider forum and yes she is a woman rider. With a lot of endurance to have ridden to the Arctic Circle from her home in Virginia. In that shot she is about 250 miles north of Fairbanks and having been up the Haul Road myself I can testify that it is a rough dirt and rock road, with a million hungry mosquitoes, so my hat is off to her. _________________ 2012 R1200RT Midnight Blue

That is definitly an RS. Look at the handle bars. Not LT bars. And the mirrors. More power to her! _________________ "Badges? We don't need no stinking badges"!

I just found this.
Yes, it was loaded to the gills, but it handled very well, even in dirt.
My RR for this trip is in my "introduction" thread on this site.
OBTW, just in case you were curious......

I recently led a ride to the abandoned quicksilver mines in New Idria, California. Just past the small mining ghost town, we went up a dirt road of abouta 30% grade. It was quite rough and rutted, although this image doesn't do it justice.

at the bottom of the hill before the mining town was nasty section of mud abut 60 feet long that we had to ride through.
My K1100LT led the way, followed by two FZ1s and a V-Strom. Going up wasn't too bad. Down had me worried a bit because the surface had loose dirt, but some light rear only braking and going nice and easy did the trick. |

^^ I assume you are Curt?
Anyway, browsing through your album, you have some beautiful shots there man, and that mining town looks like something out of a movie.
Great stuff!

Yes, that's me. I've been putting my ride pics up since last year, although there are a few that I have yet to get off my butt and upload.
I live just an hour south of San Francisco, so it doesn't get that cold. It's been just under 32 a few times this month. Highs in the upper 60s on a nice day. Mostly in the 50s, though.
I can't see the image in the OP, btw. |

Looks like that K gets quite a workout. You don't look too cold for being in the Arctic Circle...
BTW, when I load up any bike with that much stuff, it's really hard to swing the leg over when you get on. One thing I thought about doing, but haven't had the chance to try yet is to step forward towards the front of the bike a bit more than normal.
Any tips from you folks on mounting a heavily loaded bike? |

It wasn't cold. 50's -70's days.
IMHO, all bikes are dirt bikes, some are just better at it than others.
Yes, I rode thu that. The bike took a short mud nap, but after I woke her up, she was rested enough to finish the ride without getting sleepy again.
Me, I just hike my right leg up and hop/slide into the saddle. _________________ 1993 K1100RS aka The Shop Whore
