I took the K11LT to Death Valley and back last weekend with a rather large group of friends (sorry, I was the only K11, although I did spot a K100RS at Rhyolite).

Photos of the trip and a photostory are posted at:

Yeah, yeah, I know. ONLY 50k? My commute has been short and my pleasure riding limited until the last year or so. That has changed in a big way (the pleasure riding at least).

Last year, when we left on Monday at 6am, it was raining. Totalled 1/10th of an inch of rain that day. Enough to wash out the road a good 10 times with the last one being 60-80ft wide, nearly as deep as my boots are tall with mud and silt and gravel.

We got across with only one tipover, but it slowed us WAY down. And then it snowed on us lightly as we crossed Towne Pass.

I'd love to get together for lunch or coffee or whatever when you're in the area. I grew up in Morgan Hill and Gilroy and still live pretty close, on the southern edge of San Jose. There's at least one other member here (whose name escapes me atm) that lives in MH. Three K bikes in the same lot at once, now THAT's a rare sight!

Living in WV my whole life with "hills", I can't wait to ride out west and see some mountains. Thanks for the pictures.

Curt, your photo from the Chevron in Lone Pine is almost an exact duplicate of an Ansel Adams photo, Winter Sunrise, Sierra Nevada, from Lone Pine, 1944. The background mountains are almost the same, but Ansel shows more of the foreground foothills and pasture and of course, his are in black and white. Still, very remarkable, good job. Check it out.

Interesting, that's one of my favorite Ansel Adams shots. I didn't know it was from Lone Pine, but after looking at it again, it looks like it was taken a bit north of where I was. The foothills are left out because of undesirable clutter that is visible. Of course, when Ansel took the shot, there probably wasn't much clutter at all around.
