Well, I'm putting my baby back together and am facing a dilemma that I have not seen in any post trying to vaccum the fluid from rear master cylinder to pressure regulator (front - ref bike). I put the new fluid in the rear MC, loosen the front (reference to bike) pressure regulator valve, attach my fluid sucker, and pump to a psi vacuum of about 18 and not a bit of fluid leaves the MS. I'm creating a pretty good draw on fluid - having put teflon tape around the valve threads. I also tried the rear caliper nipple and same result. Just for kicks, I drew pressure from the rear caliper with the front (ref to bike) pressure regulator valve open and air was free flowing without obstruction. Since I had the pressure regulator all removed to clean the starter, I did check to see that the brake tubes were attached in the regulation places and they seem to be (it's hard to imagine bending the tubes to fit in the wrong places, but I can't figure out anything else besides asking you guys). Do I have a mighty obstruction somewhere? Am I overlooking some valve that needs to be loosened? I haven't attempted any of this in the front MS, pressure regulator and calipers thinking I don't want to make a mess without finding out what's up with the back system. Any ideas? _________________ hotscots |

Thanks to all the viewers that refrained from stating the obvious: If you want to have babies, you've got to remove the condom! The rear master cylinder does have a rubber thingie which must be removed to pull fluid through the system. Sometimes the learning curve is gratifyingly abrupt. _________________ hotscots |

Somebody educate me, what is this rubber thingy? I haven't had the master cylinder apart. I changed all the hoses on my 96 K1100RS and I am having a devil of a time with the rear brake. _________________ "Badges? We don't need no stinking badges"!

What rubber thingy? Are you talking about the cover for the bleed valve? _________________ 93 LT (x2)

Moondog, both the front and rear master cylinders have a lid - metal plate on the front which you screw on with four screws, and in the rear a plastic cap with threads. Under both is a rubber thingie (1 each) which seems to work as a spacer and gasket. Probably help protect the outside world from drips also. #3 on the attached view. You got to take it out or the juice doesn't get to the next stop down the way. _________________ hotscots |

I might as well include the link. It's on the brake fluid reservoir for the rear brake. Whatever. _________________ hotscots |

This rubber thingy.....Is there a bleed valve on the rear master cylinder? or am I missing something here? _________________ "Badges? We don't need no stinking badges"!

OK, the reservoir has a rubber thingy on it...I know that. I'm trying to figure out the quote above. There is one tube to the master cylinder to the ABS and the hose for the reservoir.. The quote makes it sound like there is something I don't know about IN the master cylinder. _________________ "Badges? We don't need no stinking badges"!

OK confusion over but I am still having a devil of a time with the rear brake. I am using the Mighty-Vac method and nothing is moving. And the rubber thingy has been off. Any ideas? _________________ "Badges? We don't need no stinking badges"!

I use a pressure pot with about 5 PSI on the resivour and work the brake handle and such.
I hate Brake fluid and the annual bleeding thing but its necessary! |

Check that the M/c piston is fully returning. If it doesn't the fluid will not get from the reservoir. _________________ Regards Tim,
