Ok, after riding for 6 months like this....after an attempt by my mechanic to "fix" a broken anchor post that the windshield was mounted to, (a critical one) somehow it's been out of alignment ever since. At the top position it's even worse.

I don't mind the wind and buffeting, but it looks...terrible.

So I tore it down today and went to work on it on my kitchen table.
Notice the crappy attempt to fix the anchor post that led to this problem.

Determined to get to the root of the problem and not wanting to....

I tore into it and eureka! The "wire" that controls the up and down motion was pulled out a bit and not fully retracted, thus leading to the left side being permanently up about 2-3". After taking off the motor I was able to retract it fully in the housing.

Now....question whats the best lube for this stuff? I want to lube the heck out of the inner cables.

Getting the bags prepped for paint tomorrow.

Can't remember where I read that it was best for the windscreen rods but I use silicone spray lubricant.

I used to use white lithium... Now I use DuPont Teflon Multi-use. http://www.amazon.com/DuPont-Multi-Use-Lubricant-Fluoropolymer-squeeze/dp/B00030BF38 available in the squeeze or spray http://www.amazon.com/DU-PONT-PERFORMANCE-DRY-LUBRICANT/dp/B000GL19TY/ref=pd_sim_auto_title_2

This teflon stuff is super slippery!!! Do not use it on anything that supports you - like folding ladders. DAMHIK!

Wine or Vise-Grips? Laughing

I think the silicone spray is the best because it does not trap dust/dirt. And if you look inside the inner abyss of your fairing.....

Second the silicone spray. Wipe off the excess. How was the wine. I love a good bottle of wine.

1. Actually it was her who picked out the towel. That one was going to the salvation army anyway. (jury's out on whether it's still going or not)

2. The wine is my wifes doing also, she likes to keep a bottle of sweet red on the table for any guests that may wander by. I haven't had a drop of alcohol in 18 years.
The mason jar with Crystal Light in it is mine. Shocked
