|
|
I need to replace a leaking fork seal on my newly acquired 93 K1100RS and I need to confirm that I have the correct part number. The parts lists on the web do not have the same names for the parts as the Clymers manual.
I think the fork oil seal is Part# 31422312928. Is this correct?
I'm considering getting the o-ring for the bolt to drain the fork oil. What other parts will I need to do this job?
Thanks. |

I searched your part # (google) and got this: http://www.google.com/search?client=safari&rls=en-us&q=31422312928&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8
Looks like it's a fork seal - I think Chicago has the best price - although they're calling it a "gasket". When in doubt, pick the phone up and call.
Isn't there an o-ring for the fill cap also? Careful you don't overtighten those - they strip easily! Can't help you with the rest of the parts.
There are a couple different parts fiches on the web - you might try more than one. _________________ Jim

Thanks Jim. I am going to order the oil fill o-rings and cap o-rings as well.

Hi,
I'm currently waiting for my fork seal parts to arrive. I ended up ordering more parts than I probably will need to replace but feel if its apart they may as well be replaced with new. One part you may want to consider ordering are the guide bushings. The manual I use states to "Check plain bush for damage/wear; replace if necessary". There are a total of 4 guide bushings I ordered. If they are worn I suspect they will allow the sliders more lateral movement and faster future seal failure if they are worn.

I'm going to take my chances for now and not order the guide bushings because the bike only has 13,000 miles on it and only one side is leaking.
Now that I think of it I may go out in the garage later and try the 35mm film trick and see if that stops the leak!

Well that didn't work so looks like I'll need to replace the fork seal. |
