|
|
Hi everyone,
I'm doing a spline lube (all driveshaft splines appear perfect - bike has done 36,000 Miles) and have eventually removed the RH pivot pin (just decided to use a blowtorch for 10 minutes protecting the final drive with a fibreglass heatshield with a hole in it mounted on the pivot pin). Crikey that Loctite is designed to be permanent or what!!
I now find I need to replace the pivot pin tapered roller bearings on the final drive (not the swing arm). I suspect the RH pivot pin was torqued slightly too high and there are marks/indents on the inner race which I can feel with my finger nail.
I have looked at http://www.k11og.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1097 but just wondered if anyone had done this job recently and had similar experiences i.e. no need to use any special tools other than some heat and a socket/extension bar to drive out the inner races
Thanks in advance

Tony,
I just replaced the Paralever pivot bearings this winter. Not a difficult job. I recommend reading Paul Glaves article in the October 2007 issue of the BMW MOA Owners News. He provides good instruction for perfoming the removal and installation of the bearings. I chose to replace the needle bearings with the JL Enterprizes bushing kit. The engineering made sense to me. Take your time, be methodical and you'll have no troubles. Good luck. _________________ Paul

The MOA appears to focus on riders in the US (no surprise there !)
Is this article available online anywhere - the MOA site does not have a search function (maybe this is only available to members ?) _________________ C1 200 (2001)

Correct, the search function is disabled unless you login. Here is one of the threads mentioned....

Thanks guys - the bearings came out easily with a socket and extension bar and a few taps - following reasonably gentle heat from a heat gun.
From other forums looks like these should be standard FAG bearings - but they are BMW specials - and priced to match!
