Johnny,

You rascal, you snatched that right out of Ducks back yard while he was shaking his piggy banks.

After 15 years of sitting, don't let 'em start if until they go through the following drill:

Replace the oil and filter, install a new battery, pull the plugs and give each jug a shot of oil and then wind the engine on the starter to build oil pressure in the system. Give her lots of time to let oil circulate and let those old seals and bearings get accustomed to working again.

This isn't a sure fire way to get an old engine back to life, but it's way better than dumping in some gas and starting her up.

Of course, give the inside of that fuel tank a good cleaning and a filter before you put new gas in it.

Good luck and don't forget to ride the Rattlesnake this weekend. (Asotin to Enterprise)

rider...

i was kidding... i saw it was pulled... thought it must have been a scam...

thinking seriously about a k75rt in st paul minnesota... leave it in the barn in iowa when we are working on the west coast... keeping the bug eye heap for our west coast adventures...

we are going to do the rattlesnake... hells canyon... lolo pass... looks like a doable weekend ride... at least that is the plan... have fun at the rally...

Johny, you don't have to leave it a barn collecting dust. I'd be glad to put some miles on it for you. My girlfried would love to ride again Laughing Laughing

And when you refill the sump, use best quality Dino oil Wink

That is what it would have run 15 years ago. A fill of synthetic will do the seals no good at all, as the high solvent content will dissolve the carbons whcih form a natural interface to the oil seals.

Run it for a thousand miles, change the oil again, and you could try a move up to a good semi-synth, which is all these old girls will ever need.

Good Luck

Skip looking for a K75. Even a puny little twerp like me riding one up finds a K75 to be a tad underpowered in the low RPMs.

Hi, Drake,
I have 2, a '94 K75 and a '95 K75RT. I like them. They are smooth and the maintenance is easier than that of the K1100. I can adjust the valves on the K75! They will handle 2 people fine, even Harriet and I rode double a couple of times on one of the K75's. The K75 does NOT have the torque of the K1100, but it does have a 5-speed gearbox which, if used judiciously, will work well to move you and passenger along with (or in front of) the traffic.
Ride safe(ly),
