$1000 for a tranny? That's it? Jeez, I dropped nearly twice that on a clutch replacement at 38k and I didn't up and sell the bike.
Maintaining ANY bike costs you money. It does sound like you tend to be abusive to your ride. That's going to cost you no matter what you ride, but less so with something solid and reliable. _________________ M N B

2nd clutch since I bought the bike.
Estimated 3-4k in repairs since I purchased the bike with 46k on it 5/06.
Thats not including the things I did myself...caliper swaps/bobbins/windshield rebuild/speakers/heated grip replacement/etc etc. (im not counting the basic maintenance such as oil/tires/brake pads/etc)
I'm not slamming the motobrick. I love the motobrick. But for me, for my application of what I need a bike for I need something with less miles on the odometer. _________________ Bane of your existence since July 2006

Glad I logged in and saw this..
Look, if you do have to get another (More reliable, possibly less interesting) bike, for God's sake stick around - you've kept my morale up through the hassles I've had with my old 11, Whether it's been directly or indirectly.
Don't forget these bikes are getting old - real old. I think there's a period of time where we accept all the crap we get from running these beasts, but after a while it gets to the point where we might want to cut loose, so I respect your decision. But I also respect your honesty whenever someone has come along with a problem, for you not being like: "Well mine is fine" etc.
Anyway, good luck with whatever you decide to ride _________________ 1992 K1100RS - Red and gold. |

Dave,
Maybe you're ready for the "Real Darkside", have you considered
a Suzuki Burgman, or other brand Maxi-scooter?? Less hp to get
you in trouble, plus they are real chick magnets...
Hope this idea helps... _________________ Kent

Scooter, that's a good one, I can see OTG wringing that thing out and it being left in a smoldering heap by the end of the first ride! LOL

Thanks for the suggestion, but I'm not a scooter guy.
Pretty much set on a Bandit 1200 or 1250 ABS. _________________ Bane of your existence since July 2006

Had a look at the Suzi web site, that bike is HOT!
Looks good with the lower fairing & bags too! _________________ 1993 K1100RS that I'd rather be riding FAST!

I didn't see any lower fairing option when I looked. Seems like that makes a big difference in cold weather riding. I Rode a bandit before I bought my BMW and almost bought it.
Why doesn't anyone make a true midweight sport touring bike that gets 60+ mpg? _________________ Jim

Try this..
Lower fairing, they have a chin spolier too, but I like this better.
I'm actually excited for OTG!!!!
But then, new bikes, even new to me or a forum member get me wound up. Cabin fever is escalating this time of year so I'm sure that's nothelping either. _________________ 1993 K1100RS that I'd rather be riding FAST!

Already have it planned with the fairing lowers.
Thanks for the help guys...but it's not close to a done deal.
Motobricks still in the shop for another 2 weeks, minimum then have to see about procuring a Bandit.
Really going to miss that stereo/Sirius/Ipod on the Motobrick though. _________________ Bane of your existence since July 2006

We have an Ipod stuck under the clear map area of the tank bag of any bike we ride. If no tank bag, there are lots of various mounts for just about any bike.
Dave, I have been looking at a local V-Strom or a Bandit myself.
Life will go on without a brick.

Geez Dave, once you have all this work done, why peddle it? Just don't wring it out when you ride it! The engine may not mind the hard use but there are other parts to consider when you are putting the hammer down. Hate to lose a good K-Biker especially when Duck's opening up his secret cabin, where seafood abounds and beer flows from the tap. _________________ Scott Hespelt, '94 K11LT

I hear ya guys, but we're only on the spinning orb for a certain time. I have to do whats best for me.
Also a west coast trip for me is pretty much out of the question till after summer 2010 when my school ends. _________________ Bane of your existence since July 2006

Could I remember the Ducati Multistrada 1100?
Once I rode one and is a very impressive bike!

What's funny Gui is that I stopped at a dealer on the way home from a patient and that bike jumped out at me.
Stunning, and fit me well but out of my price range. _________________ Bane of your existence since July 2006
