You live across the street form a racetrack?
How convenient!

It's not all that convenient. It's NH Motor Speedway where the Loudon Classic motorcycle races are held. Mostly the noise is an incredible aggravation. _________________ Jim

Great thread!
We bought this house in a McMansion neighborhood last year.
The house had been built 3-4 years ago, and lived in less than 3 months.
The yard was pretty much abandoned and most of the turf was dead and what was green was weeds.
I pulled all the weeds by hand and sprayed the small, low growing ones. I also hand pulled and raked up 98% of the plastic sod backing left behind where the sod died.
Then I spread a winterizing fertilizer last Sepemtember.
We now have the greenest dirt around.
This is going to take a LOT of work.
This is what it looked like after pulling all the weeds.
This was taken today.
This is the soil I have to work with.
The damage caused by the dog chain can't be helped until we fence in the yard sometimes in the next year.
In the mean time I plan to support what I have by over seeding, watering, fretilizer and adding natural biomass to improve the soil. _________________ 1993 K1100RS aka The Shop Whore

Nice Gwen!
Some of our apartment.
Yeah, it rocks in the summer. Plus I get a one-car (2 motorcycle) garage.

I had a neighbor that had a nice Koi pond in his backyard. One day a heron found his nice pond. A week later all of the Koi were gone. It was a shame, that bird ate them all. He tried a net, the bird poked through it. He tried staking out the pond with his bow and arrow, but the bird was too smart. Ate about 80 of those fish.

No riding in SoDak today.
But no plans to mow the lawn either. I'll fire up the snow blower in the morning.

The front yard looked as bad as the back when we moved in.
This is how it looks today.
Last fall I put down a winter fertilizer.
Within the last few weeks I’ve put out 20 bags of mulch.
Also, to patch the holes I put down 6 bags of top soil, 2 lbs of grass seed, and 4 bags of seed cover. The grass has germinated and daily watering is critical. I also planted a dogwood tree.
All the wood I used was scrap.
Here's what I've done in the yard this week.
Steve mowed the front yesterday and bagged the grass. Today I spread the clippings in the back yard to build biomass. _________________ 1993 K1100RS aka The Shop Whore

You're getting there!
These four days of 90 degree heat aren't helping any, keep it wet, that's the hardest part about starting grass in the spring here. The grass doesn't have the roots yet to get through our hot summers.
In the fall you can do a major aeration and reseed again and it will take off! Don't get discouraged if it gets fried this summer. _________________ Steve

New camera and a new water feature in the back yard. Took me 2 years (procrastinating) to finish this. Added Koi but the pond only holds about 180 gallons so not too many (2) and 4 fancy gold fish.
From the patio.
A different angle.
And from above. The shot directly on top is taken from the bridge to our front door.
All for now. _________________ Scott Hespelt, '94 K11LT
