It started here.... http://k11og.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=6305

Reposted from that thread.....

-------------------------------------

Ok, I can help. If I understand what you need....

You need this decal. (left and right)

For this bike.

Is that correct?

If so, this is what I need to reproduce it.

I need the exact measured length and height of an orginal decal.
I need to know what color you want or if you want 3M reflective and what color of that.

I can't make these myself, but can get them made at a sign shop I know.

I would only ask that you pay for the dacals and actual shipping.

-------------------------------------

I've heard back from my sign contact today.

Ok I need some help.

I need someone to take a HIGH RES, close up photo of the "K1100RS" decal we're talking about here.

Send it to me, UNCONDENCED ie: orginal pixel density, or link me to your photo hosting site where it is uploaded.

Jo, I can do that as well with this order. Do you want to use the same letter font?

And Jo, I also need exact measurments.

1. Measure the "K" along the straight line on the left side.
2. Measure the top of the decal from the "K" to the tip of the "S".

Once we get all the orders together, I'll get a price quote.

One more thing, while I'm at this, I'll take the same kind of photo of this decal in case someone wants to order one like that.

I'll price it two ways, one original size and one like the size on the black and silver K11.

-------------------------------------

Before I was a nurse, I own and operated a sign shop for 10 years. 90% hand lettered but I used vinyl as well.

When using vinyl, insist on vinyl used for vehicle lettering. It's dimensionally stable (won't shrink) and UV protected against fading.

Second, get you one of these. It's an application squeege. Most sign shops have lots of extra one's. A good shop will make sure you go home with one if they sell you the decal.

Third, read this. http://www.signmartcapecoral.com/vinyl_app.pdf

Before applying to the bike, spray the surface down with warm soapy water, covering the whole area. This will allow you to move the graphic into your preferred space and alignment. This will also help remove any air pockets under the graphic.

This is the most important step. Apply the graphic by sliding it onto the surface (you can also spray the back of the decal as well) and locate it to your liking. Press firmly starting from the center out to edges. Use a credit card or similar item to squeegee out the soapy water and air. (go easy) The key is to get all water out from under the graphic. Wait a period of time to allow adhesive to set. (15 minutes on average)

Peel back the application tape carefully, should the graphic start to lift push it back down, apply more pressure, then continue peeling back the tape.

For the above, use a household spray bottle. Fill with warm water (not hot) and add about 1cc of dish soap. Shake it up.

I hope that helps.

Ride with joy,
Gwen

------------------------------------

If anybody is interested, please post here.

I need to know which decal, how many pairs, what colors and if you want reflective and what color.

I'll not place the order for at lease a month and not until I get a firm price.

Standing by...

I want one that says K1100 MNB. Too bad it won't fit the fairing.

It'd have to go higher on the main fairing.

Gwen,
Would the stickers that you can have made be like the silver/black se shown, or the red bike on the previous thread?. More specifically, would the K1100RS be cut out of a solid piece, allowing the fairing color to show through; or would it be like the "SE" which looks as though the K1100RS is just done in black? (I'm not sure if they are individual letters or if they are over clear somehow) Thanks
Jeff

If you wanted it, you would need to give me the height and length of the total area as discribed above.

FWIW, I think it would look good on you saddlebags in the lower third segment.

Hi Jeff, it would be like the black/silver bike.
No clear over.

They'll arrive to you like this.

This is how you will put them on.

I can't help with measurements or the photos you need because I don't have the decals. You can count me in for a set though, just normal black ones would be prefect. Thanks for taking this on, I'm sure you have other stuff to do.

Hello Ms. Shoganai;

I have a silver on black SE as shown in the photo I believe you posted.

I need the letters as shown, not the negative.

The length of the decal from the edge of the K to the edge of the S is 14 1/4 inches.

The letter height is 1 5/8 inches.

I want mine to be black. If black reflective is available, I'd like two left and two right. This would be a cool upgrade over the factory version, provided they are "black black."

I actually received a factory set from Max BMW last year, used them after I repainted the silver spoiler/fairing, and then had a zero speed "unmentionable" and thus, have already scratched-up the right side.

From the factory, the individual letters (K1100RS) were positioned on a long backing sheet, properly spaced; then to install, I took off a protective layer covering the letter's sticky side, correctly positioned, rubbed/squeegeed, and then pulled off the backing sheet and I was done. I assume this is the same technique shown in your photo of the "e-mail" decal.

I'll try and take a good photo of what's on my spoiler and figure-out a way to get it to you. (I've had a tough time with the photo posting thing. An email address would be helpful.)

Thanks very much for your help with this matter.

Thanks jo for the link :smooch

I was asked a good question in an email I'll pass on here.

How much is this going to cost?

As of yet I haven't asked for a price quote.
We'll have to get all the orders together so we can get a bulk discount.
There will be a base 'design' charge for him to convert the high res photo to the line drawing the cutter understands.
Then a per piece charge. Different colors and material used will also effect the final charge for each set.

What that means is I don't know as of yet.
Once we get closer to closing out the "who wants what and how much" phase I'll forward the list to the Letterhead asking to quote each persons order seperatly.

I'll post that here.

Then you "yea" or "nay" your own order.

I'll place and pay for the orders up front.

Then I'll mail them out. All you have to do is after you get them and are happy is mail me a check for the ACTUAL cost of the decals plus ACTUAL cost of shipping. (Or Paypal + 3%)

I lost interest in making signs when vinyl came out.
I painted mine by hand, that was the ART of it. Now anybody can make signs :rolleyes.

Here a link to a few photos of my work.
http://shoganai.smugmug.com/Art
The password to all those galleries is "brutus"
Yes, I drew the pen and ink stuff too Very Happy
