So I went for a ride in the searing heat yesterday (sorry snow bunnies) and had some more time to get to know the bike. I am noticing vibes although they are less than the K100 I had. However they change more, ie there are speeds where it totally smooths out like around 115k then at 120 it gets viby then lower at 100 k it even feels like transmission vibes ie a low rumbling not engine speed dependent (pulled clutch in to verify). Now the vibes aren't big ie it is very faint but I just want to know if this is all normal for these? Or should I worry about it?
It seems to change constantly depending on speed/revs. I can't remember the K100 doing that, it was just a little bit vibey all the time and it was totally engine speed dependent.
Your feedback is appreciated.
Cheers

When I bought mine it had cracked header where the 4 pipes became one. After it was weldied the vibes improved significantly. _________________ 93 K1100LT

The PO had the same thing fixed a while ago although I'll check it. I'm not sure there is anything wrong though, just hoping someone will tell me theirs is similar _________________ K1100RS '97

Mine has various vibes, depending on the speed, engine RPM (more when it's revving higher), road conditions, etc. Sometimes it's so smooth I have to look down at the tach and make sure it's still running .
Overall, it can be a bit of a buzzy bike, but if you say the vibes are less than your old K, than I'd say it's par for the course.
Putting in the NGK Iridium plugs and running Mobil 1 synthetic oil seems to have brought the biggest improvement in smoothness for me. _________________ Steve

Or the easy way to get a smooth ride is get a K75. Smoothest running BMW I have ever owned. _________________ Ron

So tomorrow I'm giving it a full service, add headlight relays, TB balance, add the cruise control, I'll hacksaw off one of the cylinders at the same time turning it into a K75, then it'll be all sweet hey? Come to think of it, I'll hack the cylinder off first that way it'll be one throttle less to balance....
BTW re the TB balance, the article that used to detail how to do it is no longer on IBMWR. There's various postings here with bits of it. Did anyone keep a copy of the full article?
My mate the mechanic is coming over with a 4 pot carb measuring thingamebob and he allegedly knows how to use it.....but would like to read the article as well. _________________ K1100RS '97

Keep at it. Some one will be along with that article.
Going to a K75 which is one of the smoothest running mills out there would solve it. But I swear, you'd miss that hand O' God push when you roll on it hard.
My 93 K1100RS is pretty smooth, few more tweaks and she should be perfect. But then, with out that shop time, I'd probably watch way too much TV. _________________ 1993 K1100RS that I'd rather be riding FAST!

I have the the article in PDF that tells you how to sync the throttle bodies using the screws that should not be touched. You only do this sync once and then any other time you do a sync you use the brass vacuum bypass screws. When I did the sync by this article it got rid almost all of my vibration and it is really not that hard to do. PM me your e-mail and I will send it to you. _________________ Rich
