I just bought one after trying on it, a Shoei RF-1000, RF-1100, and a Arai ???. Price notwithstanding, I thought it had the best fit, great field of vision, and very nice light weight. The bonus was it cost a lot less than the Arai, and less than the Shoeis. That said, in giving it a really good once-over I noticed that the ear cutout has no padding or covering, it is just the EPS foam lining the helmet (above the cheekpad and below the liner.) Am I missing a couple padded pieces here? I don't notice it when wearing the helmet, but it sort of looks like something is missing.

Ted - I think that's where you're supposed to put the speakers... _________________ Jim

Yes, I think you are right - there is nothing there though but the black-painted hard foam from the helmet shell. Thought something should go there for those of us with no speakers, maybe removable? _________________

Hi Ted,
I have the same model helmet, with the same void. I would speculate that our helmets are complete, and as designed. It is a great helmet. _________________ 1993 K1100LT/On going project

That's normal. The padding is designed to be modular and removable so it can be washed.
The padding is just for comfort anyway, it provides no actual protection. The protection is the hard shell and thermoplastic that it encases. _________________ Bane of your existence since July 2006

I like the helmet alot, with one major exception which will prevent me from buying another one...
I get a sunburn on my forehead in a rectangular shape when riding for over 3 hours. Even though the helmet covers that part of my head. I taped over every vent in case it was wind burn, but I still got the burn. It's very annoying and no other helmet I've owned does that. _________________ M N B

That's why your lid cost less than a Shoei !! _________________ Todd Glasier in Charlotte, NC
