Hey guys,
Well, sadly, I had to return the K1300S this morning...big sigh. What an amazing bike. Incredible amounts of power on tap, 175bhp, 140Nm of torque, and selectable suspension settings while on the move.
Despite weighing 228kg dry (254kg fully fuelled), the bike is so flickable around corners, and of course the optional Akrapovic rear can did wonders to the sound! Loved the Quick-Shift function, which undoubtedly helped in attaining the 2.8sec 0-100kmh time.
Stability is amazing in even the hardest cornering, I never felt out of control, and not once did the bike cause any of the hairs on my neck to prickle, it's just that good.
But the best part is, the bike is SO comfortable. I was not expecting this. I could seriously ride this bike all the way to Chiang Mai like I did with my brick last year...I wonder if BMW will allow me to have this bike for the next long distance ride...

Wow Chris, I would say how lucky you are to have your job, but I think you know already.....
I like the 1300, and 550lbs is not bad for a Sport touring bike at all provided the wt is at center mass.
Given the peg-seat distance and the forward-canted drop bars I can't see the bike being comfortable for me, but it certainly is beautiful.....
....to admire.
I would like to try that power though.

Hey OTG,
Here's a shot of the 'normal' riding position, not too extreme at all, in fact it's almost as upright as riding my K11
But yeah, a thing of beauty it certainly is...and the power....oh my

Looks dam nice! That's actually 14kgs lighter than the K1100RS!
Do you think it would suit a tall rider? And what about the rumoured issues like engine cutting out etc, have they fixed all those?

Well, I'm 190cm, about 6'2" and I was very comfy on it. I didn't have any electrical issues with the bike, but you're right, there was a recall done recently in regards to the starter problems for certain new BMW bikes; I can't remember if the K1300S was affected by this, but if it was, I remember BMW Malaysia did a nationwide recall for all the affected bikes and rectified the starter problem. Damn, I miss this bike already...

Chris,
Thanks for the pictures and the review. 
At the same time I wish you had not posted it  . You have inadvertently thrown a spanner into the works!
I have been on the fence about keeping my K-RS or going to a Kawasaki Concours (a GTR to others). The Kaw seems similar to a K-LT.
The other bike I was considering is the K1300S. It seems similar to a K-RS once I throw soft panniers on the back.
You were comfortable on the K1300S and we are the same height.
Now you've gone and done it

OOPS! Sorry John, wish I could dissuade you but, I seriously wholeheartedly recommend this bike, it's a brilliant K. Super K. Special K! Isn't that a cereal? I quote Ferris Bueller; "If you have the means, I highly recommend it, it's so choice..."
Anyway, I got some studio shots done with the bike (long story, our other publication 'Clive' needed a bike as a prop for a shoot, and it so happened I had this K13S at the time) and as you can see, it's a perfect fit for guys our size
Am not helping at all am I? Hahaha
AND it looks damn good for 2 up riding as well....ahem. I supplied the prop, Clive supplied the model, that's my friend Stefanie

I'm glad I don't have anywhere near enough money for one!!
Might at least go for a test ride though. Only one more year of school fees and child support for one of the kids. End of next year I'll have enough to look around

That second picture looks even MORE comfortable 
I really like that bike color combo.
My biggest hesitation is having the nearest dealer be over 180 kilometers away. This would not be a do-it-yourself bike like the K1100.
By any chance, you haven't test ridden the latest Kawasaki ZX-14?
Somewhat similar to the K1300 but less money and that dealer is 20 km away.

Yup, I have, it is one totally insane bike. Up to 200bhp at the rear wheel with the Ram-Air effect. The front end actually lifted off the ground in 2nd and 3rd gear during hard acceleration. Here's an excerpt from my review of the BMW F800GS that I did some time back, in which I made a reference to the ZX14:
"I’ve always been more of a super-sports bike junkie, craving nothing more than pure unadulterated straight line power, the more the better, and this was my steadfast credo from the time I owned a Kawasaki ZZR1100, right up till the point when I had the new Kawasaki ZX1400 on review. I vividly recall, after one of the many ‘midnight runs’ on the ZX14 where the objective was nothing more than an attempt to discover the upper limits of the bike, I got off and immediately had to sit on the ground. My knees were so wobbly they could not hold me up anymore and my hands were shaking so badly I could not undo my helmet strap.
So I sat there, helmeted, shaking and sweating – despite it being a relatively cool evening – looking at this six-eyed monster which seemed to be mocking me in ways that I did not appreciate. I came nowhere near to discovering the top end of that bike, but I did discover the limits of my resolve. As I sat there, I had one of those pivotal moments that sometimes happen to riders. I had a biking epiphany. I realised that perhaps for the first time ever, the biking world had gone too far. A powerful bike is a great thing, but this one had taken things to a whole different level; it had gone from sublime to ridiculous. I realised right then and there that I’d be willing to trade 200bhp for something with better handling and more agility."
Well that pretty much sums up my feelings about the ZX14, it's an awesome piece of machinery for sure, but to me, it's just a bit too excessive. It's also an extremely long bike, and the riding position is quite severe for long distances. But hey, that's just my opinion

I took the 1000RR out last Saturday. Mind blowing performance that I find hard to describe but I never had any intention of buying one as I get leg cramps on any sportsbike and most tourers. Great fun though for 10 minutes. I test rode the 1300GT last year and found that awesome too but to keep my licence I pitched for a 1200 GS Adventure to have alongside the K1100RS. Still have my licence......
