In case anyone here is interested, I started building my K75F (Frankenbike) this week. I'm documenting it over on ADV at the following link. You can probably learn a lot about K bikes there if you're a nOOb to Ks.

Since it's a two valve K it's got some differences with K1100s but the basic design of the bikes is close.

Then I installed the air plenum on the top of the TBs. BMW uses those dumbass Oetiker clamps but I use these thin stainless hose clamps from McMaster-Carr that work just as well and are much cheaper.

Do you have a part number or anything I could reference for these? I've searched high and low for a replacement for the OEM's. I currently have zip-ties on there Embarassed

I found some a year ago from some euro scooter repair place. They cost a couple of bucks each. The McMaster Carr ones cost $8.34 per box of 10.

They were actually quite easy to find. I just had to think to look for them there. Rolling Eyes

Steve, I just orderd an extra set of 4 (11611460940). I figured if they were skinny enough for the lower hose that they would fit the upper ones too.
They are most likely more than mmcarr but I didn't need 10 of them for my project.

Scott, don't those BMW one's require a special tool to install? It's been a while since I cut them off, but I thought I remebered that you had to have a BMW tool to tighten them up.

I was hoping to find plain old hose clamps for ease of installation and the ability to remove them in the future with out destroying them. All the local auto parts places only had wider ones that wouldn't fit in the groove.

Am I mistaken?

Steve, there are 2 kinds of the large hose clamps.
1 type that are the oetiker type are the 48mm one-time clamps.

The other kind are a screw type reuseable. They are also skinny.

11611460940 is the part # for the reusable ones.

http://www.maxbmwmotorcycles.com/fiche/DiagramsMain.aspx?model=K1100LT&prod=021992-031997&market=USA

part #4. The description says it's 46mm but it will fit both sides of the throttle body and the injector side of the intake hose.
I used them on mine.
You just have to be careful where you place the screws so they don't interfere with the linkage, but it can be done. It's pretty easy.

You need a special tool but not necessarily the BMW version.

http://www.oetiker.com/content.asp?l=4&idNavig=448

There are generic versions out there too.

Well, I've been diddling with this bike in my spare time and recently got to getting the ABS to work. Since the K1100 front end uses a different sensor and modulator I already had those installed.

The real bummer was when I discovered that one of the outlets on K1100 front modulator was larger than the connector for the K75 front metal ABS lines. I found a dude with his own brake shop that's been doing brakes for years. I rode the bike down to his place and he confirmed that he could replace the K75 connector with a K1100 connector I'd looted from a K1100 brake line. The downside was that he had to do it on the bench. This meant I had to remove the metal brake line from the bike.

What a pain in the ass. In order to get the brake line out I had to take the front wheel off and disconnect the frame from the rear of the bike so I could rotate the rear of the frame up and extract the metal line. It sounds easy but is a LOT of work. Once he'd put the new connector on (only $17) I had to reroute the metal line and then put everything back together.

I had a set of Galfer stainless brake lines that I bought for my RS so I used those instead of some old crappy worn brake lines.

I also had to rewire the connector on the K75 harness to make it work with a K1100 brain. It really only involves moving the power supply by one pin but it's kind of a hassle to take the connector apart and reposition the pin and then put it back together. Fortunately, since I'd planned on doing this ahead of time, I did it to the wiring harness before I initially installed it on the bike.

Anyhow, this morning I finally got everything back together, installed the K1100 ABS I brain and it was time for the acid test. Will my hybrid K75/K1100 ABS work? Question

I was gonna be pissed if it didn't because it ended up being a lot of extra work to make this an ABS bike.

So I backed it out of the garage this morning, turned it on and got the expected ABS lights flashing. Dropped into first gear, let out the clutch and VOILA! THE ABS INITIALIZED ON THE FIRST TRY! SUCCESS!!!! Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy
