One of the first meetups was at Hungry Mother State Park so that's where the hungry comes from.

Trust me, nobody goes hungry at these events. Quite the opposite.

We took the "Hungry" from FD's event (Hungry Dungee) which was adopted from Hungry Mother State Park.

As FD indicated NOBODY goes hungry at these gatherings...QUITE THE OPPOSITE.

I think Crazy Johnny gets credit for spreading it because when I invited him and Micki up to my cabin for crab in 08 he referred to it as Hungry Dunge. The rest, as they say, is history.

drikko, as you are from the beautiful and mystical land of Brisbane, OZ, here is a link to the first Hungry location.

http://www.dcr.virginia.gov/state_parks/hun.shtml

The Legend of Hungry Mother

Legend has it that when the Native Americans destroyed several settlements on the New River south of the park, Molly Marley and her small child were among the survivors taken to the raiders’ base north of the park. They eventually escaped, wandering through the wilderness eating berries. Molly finally collapsed, and her child wandered down a creek until the child found help. The only words the child could utter were "Hungry Mother." The search party arrived at the foot of the mountain where Molly collapsed to find the child's mother dead. Today that mountain is Molly’s Knob, and the stream is Hungry Mother Creek.

What a great story, looks like I'll be getting to USA a bit more this year, haven't been there for a few years. I'll keep an eye on the calendar, be good to join into one of those, even without a bike Smile

So I wonder if they found the mother? I'll go read up on it.

One of our little group of riders is aboriginal, he rides like a demon!! Handy to have around as he doesn't drink unlike all of us and all of his rellies (as we keep reminding him Smile). He's got a great sense of humour too, needs it around us white fellas Laughing Laughing

Mind you he does open the cap on his petrol tank to sniff for fuel fairly often...not suggesting anything at all Paulie...just checking the level aren't you Smile

If you do come here, I'm SURE there are many here that would glady offer you free room and board and a cold beer if you let us know where you'll be or where you'll be traveling.

I, for one, would love for you to stay with Steve and I if you're near Washington, DC. We are about 60 miles from there.

I used to go there every 3-4 months for years for bullshit management meetings, but not the last few years. Will see what can be done as I'm restarting a role that gets me over there again. Usually in Santa Clara or Dallas but occasionally St Paul, Minnesota and Atlanta (still the most boring place on the planet I have found...).

Just some comments on National Parks I have visited, Grand Canyon obviously, you went too far with that one, half that size would have been fine, but my favourites were Bryce Canyon and Zion. Loved the drive through the rock at Zion, totally awesome. The other one I really like was a little one in New Mexico (I think) Red Rock something, it was 15 years ago!! Really pretty spot!!

You guys have geological extremes we can only dream about!!

It's all about where you live isn't it Smile

We have some awesome things here, you bet, the deserts, the reef, the desolation. I spent many years working in central australia, I never got tired of it. Every day was an eye opener, the animals, the plants, the general scenary.

What we don't have is mountains, even our highest one is 7000ft and you could drive a taxi over it in summer. When I drove through the rockies in winter I was absolutely stunned. Nothing in OZ prepares you for mountains like that. Yep you are right, OZ is fantastic, in particular you can right away from people so easily, anytime, that's what I like the most and the best places are still relatively undisturbed. Hope it stays that way!!

But as for just plain big things to look at US is awesome. But then so is China, you should go there one day and see the history and the thinhs the chinese built. I often tell people nothing prepares you for how big the Grand Canyon is till you stand on the side, well same for the Great China Wall, what an incredible engineering and building feat!!

I thought it was mostly because I was going to be there. Cool

I think motorcyclists in general like food more than other demographics.
Scott at my house.

Of course, some motorcyclists like food more than others.
Case in point, me at my surprise recent 40th birthday:

Me next to our slim Brazilian friend Gui, who clearly does not like food. Laughing

Hey dear. I'm still working two full time jobs.

For example I'm working 2/14, 15, & 16 11pm-8am
off 2/17
work 2/18, 19, 20, 21, 22, & 23 7pm-7am
work 2/24, 25, & 26 11pm-8am
off 2/27 & 28
work 3/1, 2, & 3 11pm-8am
Work 3/4, 5, 6, 7, 8, & 9 7pm-7am

I still have to find time to cook, clean, buy shit, fix shit, manage my 24 Autistic son and all the appointments for Medicade, DSS, CBS, and psych doc.

And on top of that I've taken on replacing the steering head bearings on a friends 1985 K100RT, + throttle cable and oil change. I should it out of the garage by this coming weekend.

some pics...

Thank you dear and just call me Gwen. Wink

I should only have to maintain this pace for about another 9 - 12 months.
Then I can just ease back to working 4 - 12 hours shifts a week.

I have two bike projects that on hold until next year due to this schedule, so I'm looking forward to when I can find the time to finish / start on them.

And now I owe her more than I feel I can repay, taking a hunk of a bike and turning it into a road-eating machine. Looking forward to the reunion.
