In a couple of thousand kilometers, I will clock up 200,000 kilometers, When I bought the bike it had 50,000 kilometers on it.
All this has been achieved with the replacement of 1 clutch, 2 sets of fork seals (untill I put gaters on seals have now lasted) a front and rear uni joint and some minor electrical problems, and oil, oil filter, gearbox and diff changed every 5,000 kilometers
When I hit the 200K mark I'll give the bike a compression test and if all is good, that will make up my mind on keeping and respraying the bike. How does this compare to other high Kilometer K1100's? How much more do you think I can get from her?

I bought some eBay stuff from a guy in LA who had owned his LT since new for 219,000 miles (as of last year.) Said his only major maintenance item had been a head gasket at around 120k or something like that. _________________ 93 LT (x2)

I bought a '96 K1100LT in 1997 with 14299 miles. I sold it in 2006 with 122k miles. I saw it tonight, with 150k miles on it. It now has a small leak, probably from the clutch "O" ring, and probably needs a clutch. That's about 250k km. _________________ Ride Safe,

| The K1100 has the power, tremendously more so, but for longevity in the mileage department, it's predecessor, the mighty K100 is the master.... I've heard of 500k miles being obtained on some of the beasts out there and now have turned 205K on my 1985 K100RT with it still going strong hauling my butt to work and rallies daily...... |

I remember a few years ago there was a K100 with 675,000 miles on it. It was a 1985 K100RS. I remember it cause I have an 85 with over 100K on it and was thinking that my bike is still a baby and has many years/miles left in her. My only question is the old speedo/odometers were not very good and most stopped working. Mine stopped at 97K but comes back on every once in a while as a treat. So are these high milage clams nable to be proven or is it just K bike lore? _________________ Ron

Is Ihave a 97 k1100 and it has 117,000 miles.
Owned it since 92000 miles, I have had to put in new front disk thingy's between wheel and rotor.
The radiator got a hole in it.
Clutch, all seals in between, spline repack.
I consider all of this maintenance.
I took the bike in to my BMW mechanic for a tire change. I ask him if he would look at the spark plugs I pulled out. He said OK, but it isn't going to matter......I said why? His response......the bike will fall apart around the engine, It will still run on its way to the junkyard. _________________ Ken in Denver |

BMW used to issue High Mileage Awards. This might be worth looking into via a dealer. _________________ 2000 R1100RT

They still do. I just received my 300k award from BMW Motorrad through Lone Star BMW/Triumph in Austin, TX a couple of months ago. _________________ Ride Safe,

Hey, get over yourself, they're only kilometers! Hit 200,000 miles and then you've been somewhere!
just kidding. _________________ Jim
