I use the Bosch 3330 (Autozone less than $5)
The only difference between the 76121 and the 3330 is that the 3330 is painted black and has a label on the side (which I warm up with a heat gun to remove)
I have yet to see a problem with the black paint being submersed in hot oil for extended periods.

I have used the 1348 Napa Gold Filter with no problems. Preferred the Gold for the better filtering specs.

The Fram filters have really done poorly in the tests I have seen - the Bosch is a few bucks more and is a much better filter. I bought a few on my last visit to Autozone.

I landed a lucky buy a couple of months ago. Some guy sold a car and had 5 of the Bosch filters left over so he listed them on E-bay.
Got the lot of 5 for less than $8 shipped. Didn't sound like a too bad of a deal. Very Happy

Used my last 2 BMW filters this weekend so the Bosch ones are up next.

Edit: Had to look back in my records to verify exactly how much they were.

Do any of the aussies know if any of these are available over here? Or are we stuck with the $22 ones from the BMShop?

I'll print this thread out and wander down to the local car shop or Supercrap one day and see what they have.

Have a look over at http://www.ibmwr.org/otech/partsubs.shtml for a few other options for oil filters.

BTW your dealer is a damn sight cheaper than Adelaide Motors BMW - $32 plus GST is their price for the oil filter. Not going there again.

just remember to stick with the BOSCH numbers they are more wide spread through out the world... the key with cross-referance is to find a automobile that uses the D3330 or the 76121.. then ask look up in the local shop what filters fit this car ..

Napa 3148 is made by WIX; and I would not use Fram (POS).

My 1st choice is Purolator. Found out that Motorcraft 910 will fit.

Hi, All,
I try not to use BMW oil filters. BMW does NOT make the filters; they are bought from Mahle and packaged for BMW. The OEM filter is the Mahle OC-91. After literally years of looking, I finally found someone in the USA who has (had?) them for sale. I bought 10 for $75 plus $10.35 shipping. As far as you Aussies go, I can't help except to give you the Mahle part number and hope someone in OZ imports and sells them for less than BMW. The price in the US (the Max BMW site) is $17.22 for the filter. The "kit" (includes the drain plug gasket and cover plate "O" ring) is a little more.

just went to o'reilly and they sold me a wix 51348. It is painted black and has the stickers. Guess i'll have to get those removed. Tried to see if the filter wrench I got from the PO (the mahle socket wrench part) would fit but the wix is just a little small. Anyway to be sure this will work before taking the oil out and attempting to change the filter? And is a hair dryer enough to heat up and remove a sticker?

For those in the UK the Champion C301 filter is a direct replacement. They seem to be stocked by Halfords for around £5-6

I needed one in hurry, nipped to my local Halfords and they had a couple in stock.

I don't like Wix. There is some kind of bypass in the BMW filter that automotive filters may or may not have. (I think).

Get Bosch if you don't want to buy BMW - Bosch #72161 - the ones I have are US made.

Peel the sticker - with or without a little heat - use WD 40 to get the glue off.

okay, where would i get one of those? i don't have an autozone around, not that it matters. i can't really search any of the auto parts sites because they require you to fill in what car you have, but none have motorcycles as options.

Bosch filters aren't hard to find. If you don't have time to track one down, stick the Wix in - I doubt it could hurt a K!
