Hi.

Last summer I mounted a helmcam on the faring of my K11LT, and took appr. 12 hours of raw movies. Edited them down to 2 hours.

Se: http://wbsp.arb.ltu.se/EuroPrez/images/movies-from-summer-09
specially the 5'th line:
"Country roads near Kalmar in south Sweden ( Arne Torrika )"

The sound was picked up by the helmcam = wind and sound from my engine not the bike ahead. Though a K11 has a nice sound.
Got me a digitaldictafone with external microfone today to mount on the bike ahead and then mix the movie and soundtrack together. Used MS Movie Maker for the present movies.

The challange are how to syncronise the timing between the movie and sound. Like claping my hands in front of the mic or???
And tips?

I can't answer your question, but tell me how you can link the picture taken with the GPS map og where it was taken?

That is one one the coolest things I've ever seen!

There are two basic ways you can link GPS coordinates and an image:

1) You can use picasaweb to specify the location on a map. Simple enough for a single photo. A complete PITA for 150 pictures...

2) Set the time on your camera to match the time on your GPS (+/- 1 sec or so is fine). Then use a geotagging application (there are several free/shareware apps available for the PC and Mac. You import your gps track information from the trip and then open a folder of images and it will compare the timestamp on the image with the times on the track and enter the gps coordinates as a geotag in the EXIF data on the image. Then, when you upload the image later, Picasaweb recognizes that automatically. iPhoto on the Mac will as well.

Note: You can enable location information in Settings for the camera on an iPhone and it will Geotag the images for you. Other cellphones with GPS capability can probably do this as well. Then if you upload to picasaweb, it should be able to read the geotag and show it on a map.

Today's Nerd Note has been brought to you by the letters G, P and X.

The best way to go about this is to use a camera with a socket for an external mic, internal ones are way too sensitive and omnidirectional, they'll simply be overwhelmed by the masses of air rushing towards them.

Fix the external mic on a long lead and place the mic facing rearward and roughly above and near the exhaust exit, if possible set the mic to pick up forward facing sound rather than omindirectional.
If not possible you'll still get better sound than with an internal mic. Make sure that you tie up the mic wire along the side of the frame to ensure that you don't snag it anywhere.

Hi.

Think I'm on #25 of the knuffelina photos http://picasaweb.google.se/Knuffelina/Schweden2009 , and some more. Laughing
More photos from that trip on:
http://picasaweb.google.se/luletibbe/LofotenTrip#
And "knuffelina" alias Ingrid are on my movies from lofoten.
We are riding together in the www.europrez.com bunch.

Picasa with web-albums - goggle-map and earth are great.

Good idea; use the tracker ( with timestamp ) in the GPS and the timestamps on the photos + picas-web-map to pin photos to location. Thanks a lot.

Will try it in summer ( "grounded" from riding until mid-june due to a stroke ).

Thought about using an external mic to the helmcam, but in my opinion a bit of a challange to transmit the soundsignal from the bike in front?
Will mount the recorder and external mix close to an exhaust pipe on my bike to find out the settings. Or any tips?
Aslo thought about directional mic on the bike, maybee for next summer.
