A riding buddy installed a new rear tire and started the engine on the center stand, forgetting it was in gear. Now the red rear brake monitor light stays on by the green neutral light, but the red flashing abs light goes out when moving. The owners manual says the rear brake monitor light is a dual function light, checking both the operation of the brake light circuit and abs. The brake light does go on with front and rear brake switch, so that circuit should be ok. On my 97 LT with ABS II, the monitor light goes out when both brakes levers are applied.
We tried clearing the codes with a jumper from #2 wire on the test connector to ground, key on with reset button set for 30 sec. Monitor light still stays on. Purchased a LED to read codes, caused a code, read the code, and removed it, just to make sure the system is working. Zero codes, but the red monitor light is still on!!

Change the bulb - make you sure you put in one of the German made ones. I've had the tail light working just fine, but the light on the dash wouldn't go out until I changed the bulb. Haven't had too much luck with bulbs from other parts of the world. I'm sure my K has it's own electrical gremlins... _________________ Jim

Remember to check both tail and brake light. If the tail light burn out,
the monitor box will turn the brake light on but at low power(dim).

The bulb monitor itself had nothing to do with ABS or fault codes. They're just using the "triangle" indicator light for two purposes.
+1 on what Jim said. Good bulbs, clean sockets. A bulb with a weak filament will light up but still make the BMU upset. _________________ 93 LT (x2)
