Probably be moving up from a 1986 k100rs in the next few months,
A few q`s first.
The weight-is the lt really that much heaver than the rs?
My current krs has c bars as I`m getting older, would the lt be that much more comfortable?
I like my present k but I used it throughout the winter, Its a bit chilly- Lt much better? but what about summer?
Cheers

VERY different bikes. The LT is not only heavier but much more topheavy. The RS also rides a bit lower.
Given the different riding postures, on the RS you're a body is more in and over the bike and the riding feels more aggressive. On the LT you're pretty upright and I always feel like a motocop when I'm riding mine.
The LT handles MUCH better if you put radials on it.
As I said, they really are very different bikes but I enjoy riding both of them. The LT is more relaxing to ride but I can eawsily do 12-14 hour days on either bike (and have.)
In hot weather they are both thigh cookers with the RS seeming to be slightly warmer.
I suggest that you test ride both. _________________ 93 LT (x2)

In tha past I had a K1100RS 1995 and now I have a 1994 K1100LT.
After riding some miles in the RS, I felt some disconfort in my posterior cervical region, due the "over the bike" riding position.
Maybe caused by the 17in front wheel, In my opinion the RS is more heavy to handle, specialy in parking lots spaces.
The Cop Position of the LT is much more confortable, and the wind protection is superb. THe rubber mounted pegs and handlebar of the LT is more suited for long rides, too.
Just my 2 cents...

Hello!
Well, both bikes have rubber mounted handlebar and pegs. A'll add to list that RS fairing is noisy - I am 1,80 m tall and all wind goes into helmet no weather how I set the deflector. Master Yoda riders position helps a lot in long runs.
My friend use to have K75RT - similar fairing to LT, now his ridding R1150RT. All the time his wife tells us that brick was the most quite and comfortable bike ever .

I only have a very few miles riding an LT (Saltcreek's bike) but 2-1/2 seasons on my RS.
Everybody's input so far seems accurate. The variable is body size and proportions.
I have been comfortable for several hours at a time on my RS (no barbacks- stock bars) but I have VERY long arms.
What Gui posted about slower speed handling of the RS is very true- it can be a handful but that disappears when speed increases (as you know). However having a more upright position on the LT will take weight off your arms but put more on your rearend.
Good luck,

Buy one of each. I did. The LT is nicer for those cool mornings as the RS puts the air flow around the neck and head making it tough to keep the neck warm. I also think the RS is a bit warmer on the legs. Handling is definitely different. Test ride both and find out which you prefer. When you can't decide, buy one of each. _________________ Doug

Thanks for the advice, I will put it by SWMBO and get back to you, I was thinking more toward the LT as my current RS is quite noisy,I`m 5ft8.
Will have to save upand attempt to get a test ride.
Cheers

Welcome Ray! I would think 5'8" would be about the lower limit for a stock LT. I'm curious to hear what other short people have to say. _________________ Jim

One last point- I had (which skdonlan now has) an Aeroflow windshield for my RS. It changed cold weather riding for me. I could easily ride down to temperature below freezing and be warm. Unbelievable difference.
So if you cannot find an LT or cannot sell your RS (where have I heard that before?) think of that alternative.
Good luck,

I first owned a K75S, I converted it to "C" bars - actually the Euro K100 Standard bars which are a little wider, I believe a little higher, and were part of the heated grip upgrade kit. Interestingly, the heated grip kit, with bars, was only $5 more than the bars alone at the time. On my K11RS I upgraded to a "C" bar, then bought another Euro K100 Standard heated grip upgrade and put that on. Allh were awesome upgrades for comfort.
When I started looking at bikes to replace my wrecked K11 I focused on the F650GS and K75S. I couldn't stand the buzz of the F650 and couldn't find a NOS Euro K100 Standard heated grip kit anywhere. A good friend offered to sell me his K75RT and at first I dismissed it because I thought the bars too upright - then I rode it.
Most comfortable riding position on any bike I've ridden yet, hands down. The seating position is similar to the K11LT - while the LT feels heavier, it is like going from a VW to a Ferrari performance wise.
Summary - go test ride a K11LT, I am betting you'll be very happy with the riding position and blown away by the performance. _________________

Speaking of fairing noise, I noticed the other day that my new Shark helmet was really noisy at anything over walking pace, unless I shrugged my shoulders even just a litlle bit. I think shrugging my shoulders deflected the wind from around the bottom edge of the helmet. When like this it was almost totally silent at any speed!
Sooooo I am thinking I might experiment with some soft foam pieces velcrod around the base of the helmet. Has anyone else tried it? The difference between shoulders up and down was outstanding! _________________ K1100RS '97
