This is one of the more common failure points on the K11, given that it is still pretty rare. I never had a crack but I believe people that have simply replace with aftermarket or get them re-welded.
I made it a habit of re torquing the header bolts at every oil change as they have a bad habit of loosening up and causing stress further down the exhaust. _________________

Mine was cracked on two of the downpipes at only 36,000 miles. Got it welded/brazed locally.
I do suspect that some of the jigs on which these exhausts were built were not 100% accurately engineered _________________ K1100RS Special Edition 1997

Yha ! I suspect the reasons of crack might loosen Ex stud bolts. But I wonder why never heard ABS2 model happened like this crack. Some staff of BMW Japan said there are something different between ABS1 and ABS2. |

The only real difference is the ABS. However, because of that they redesigned the junk under the seat and got rid of the ignition amp. They also changed the wiring harness and the instrument cluster to accommodate the ABS-associated changes. _________________ 93 LT (x2)

Didn't they also change some mounts also when they did the ABS switch between the '93 and '94 years? _________________

If you decide to get it welded, may I suggest you change the silencer (muffler) support rubber. I read somewhere that it is that rubber which hardens & may cause the cracked pipe.

Thank you Tim
I also suspected vibration of mount rubber might cause of crack pipe.
I did not know exactly the material of rubber between ABS1 and ABS2 might different.
Anyone knows about this ? |

Exact same exhaust hanger. I'll bet if you searched here you'd find ABS II bikes with cracks at the collector. _________________ 93 LT (x2)

Mine too. A buddy with a mig welder fixed in 5 minutes, reinforced it nicely. _________________ '02 - GL1800
