I have tried a few things in the last couple of months to try to make my k bikes trans shift better than"BAD",and I do mean that-I was thinking of saying goodbye to her! I tried the preloading method, worked sometimes but found myself thinking about shifting more than hitting that apex at 170kph.I went to synthetic lube, but it did nothing. Changed over to a normal 80w and it helped a bit. The thing that worked the best was taking a shift rubber from my 65 Norton atlas, shave off a bit so it fits nice, then glue the sucker on. Went out and flogged it ,and the thing never missed a shift,no more false neutrals, and should I say,it almost shifted like my Jap bikes!!! Give this old piece a try, usually had for less than $12 at any british vintage shop. Please note that if my bike starts to mark its spot on the drive, the rubbers coming off!- Cheers. I have the same problem here and changing gears is a issue, that is if it does go where you want it to go. _________________ Good Things |

I'd hazard a guess that it is the rubber on the shift lever - the pommie ones may be a bit thicker. But I could be wrong _________________ David, owner of:

Yes it is the rubber on the shift lever, and the norton one is 3 times the outside diameter of the beemer one. I think the issue is a lever geometry problem that is not corrected by moving the shifter up or down on the splined selector shaft. Anyway, try this "cheap" fix before anything else and I bet you will have a better shifting trans. _________________ KBRICK |
