It's an AWESOME bike for riding without a helmet. I just got home from my 3,300 mile ride to South Dakota and back. Since there's no helmet laws in Idaho, Montana, Wyoming or South Dakota the vast majority of those miles were ridden lidless. With a tall Cee Bailey windscreen I can take it up to 120+ and the wind just goes right over the top of my head.
I know some people would never consider riding without a helmet but I'm not one of them. For me it's like the difference between driving my convertible and riding in a closed cage. Anyhow, the LT definitely rocks without a helmet. _________________ 93 LT (x2)

I gotta come outa the closet on that one, Duck. Don't tell my wife but I'll go lidless once in a while in extreme heat coming home from work. After I cross outa the communist republic of WA into God's country, the right to work state! _________________ Scott Hespelt, '94 K11LT

Scott:
I saw a Mystic Red LT with ID plates in a motel parking lot in Giilette, WY last week. Any chance that was you? How many Mystic Red LTs can there be in Idaho? _________________ 93 LT (x2)

You should only ever wear a helmet on a head you want to keep......
My parents used to say you should only clean any teeth you want to keep, same thing I guess. _________________ K1100RS '97

Used to enjoy lidless until big brother forced us to use them. I always wore one, unless I needed to dry my hair (had some then, 1976). But of all the off's I have had, it's always been legs ,knees or arse (ass) that's hit the deck, never my head!
Boy am I jealous, never to have tried a K lidless. _________________ Regards Tim,

Having hit pavement twice at over 60 mph (when younger) and made serious helmet contact I will not even think about riding without one. I also recently took a hit from a 4" bolt to the windshield of my Saab that came in so fast by the time I saw it I was able to swerve the car approx 6" in the lane and when it hit I felt the impact - in the CAR. Then there are all the minor nuisances like sun, wind, bugs, wind noise, etc. I'm all for free choice but personally I just can't see the attraction of riding without a lid. _________________ 2012 R1200RT Midnight Blue

I pretty much always wear ear plugs, helmet or not. There's no guarantee I'm going to crash and smash my head but hearing loss is a given if you ride enough without ear protection. _________________ 93 LT (x2)

to each his own....i just like the freedom to choose for myself...
on that note, a helmet was the only thing my parents made me do if i wanted to ride as a kid...now im just used to it.
I have had three helmets that have had hard contact from going down. So, they serve a purpose.
However, I do love the wind in my hair......

I can't imagine riding my RS lidless. The front end seems carefully designed to generate a coherent, high-energy bug-beam -- tuned to the bee and wasp range -- directed precisely at my eyeballs. _________________ '93 K1100RS
