Had four in attendance. miKeinWIs and Klinker had a good dinner in Lead on Tuesday, but were too hungry and forgot to take photos (this will become a pattern.) Flying Duck pulled in early Wednesday and we met up with Scott_Anderson in Deadwood.
At the base camp:
Breakfast at Cheyenne Crossing:
Ain't that a daisy:
Sturgis T-shirts for educated men:
No donkeys, but we gots a goat on a bridge:
Traditional tourist shot on Iron Mountain Road:
And it wouldn't be Hungry Buffalo without some buffalo:
One Crazy Horse and three crazy Old Geezers:
Three proud Old Geezers and one "I don't do stickers" odd Duck:
The roads and weather were good, the fellowship was great, road food was consumed, beer was savored, lies were told... and hopefully all returned home and back to real life.
See ya' all next year! _________________ tlp

Here's my contribution.
Along the way there....
I hate it when this happens:
A little break as they repave it with some nice smooth asphalt
An alpine lake on the other side of the pass:
Then I took a little jaunt along the Chief Joseph Scenic Byway. Nothing but smooth sweepers and neverending vistas:
I don't know who this Chief Joseph feller was but I'm thinkin' he owned a motorsickle:
Found some riding partners along the way:
After that I made my way back to I-90 and slabbed the rest of the way to Deadwood. I didn't make it there until a little after 2am. I didn't want to wake up the boys so I set up a stealth bivouac at a forest service picnic area and copped a few hours of shuteye:
Breakfast with Mike and Klinker the next morning. In honor of the event, I ordered the buffalo sausage with my eggs:
Mt. Rushmore framed by a tunnel on Iron Mtn. Rd.:
Our most excellent guide for the day, Klinker:
Then I put the world's finest LT into helicopter mode and shot these pics:
Underscore in action:
Mike in action:
Some real buffalo. The one on the left is the world's most valuable buffalo because if you examine his hide closely you can make out an outline of Elvis and the baby Jesus sitting in a row boat making peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. I've heard the park service is going to list it on eBay next week to make up for a budget shortfall.
Old Geezers in action:
The Crazy Horse monument that will never be completed but is good for milking money from naive donors:
The last stop before Underscore peeled off to return to Rapid City:
Then it got rather cold and foggy as we headed off for dinner:
The buffalo was so hungry that I didn't even have a chance to get my camera out for a meal shot:
Then Klinker split off to Rapid City in the rain and we headed back to the cabin in the rain - which was good because my bike really needed a wash.
All in all, an excellent day of riding. Klinker's local knowledge meant that we spent the day riding, not looking at maps, and all of the roads were smooth and sweet.
The next morning, the hungry buffalo having been sated, Mike headed off...
I did some more riding on Thursday before heading to my aunt's place in Custer to visit for a few days.
Spearfish Canyon:
The end of the pavement in Rochford:
Pactola lake:
More pics later of my ride home..... _________________

Riding home, day 1:
A hungry prairie dog. May need to name a ride after him someday:
Most likely a decommissioned Minuteman silo in the middle of nowhere, Wyoming:
National Cemetery at Little Bighorn. Includes the fallen from the past as well as the present:
Memorial and the site of Custer's last stand. The tombstones are placed where their bodies were found. (Custer has since been moved to West Point.)

My wife and I rode out to Colorado at the end of June to visit her cousin and ride some mountain roads. After 5 days I got bored and turned north stopping at Devil's Tower.
We stayed in Sturgis that night at the Super 8 not knowing the BMW dealer was next door until later. We stopped in the dealer Friday July 2 only to find there were no L or XL T-shirts. They said they would be glad to ship one to me so I bought one. Received it two weeks later via USPS Priority at no extra charge. +1 for Sturgis BMW. We spent Friday here,
here,
and finished in the Badlands.
Maybe next year!
I'll have to catch up with miKeinWIs this fall when I go up to EauClaire to watch my son play rugby or possibly the Dells Rally. _________________ Doug
