Good morning all...

Question: I know you have to be a bit suspicious or maybe stoned when referring to Clymer for anything factual, BUT on page 722 of the "K" bike manual ( M500-3 edition ) one will find the electrical schematic for the K1100LT Windshield Circuit. In the upper left hand corner they identify a so-called "three position, center open" Window Switch. What is this switch, what does it do, and where do you find it ??? Could it be one of the two seemingly non-functional switches that one finds on the left side of the Map Light ?? If so, the wire codes do not match. In fact on my bike at least, neither of these two switches seems to have any effect on anything. So what goes with these two switches or are they simply auxiliary provided for 'after market' gizmos ??

Thanks in advance for any info re the two switches and/or the mysterious Clymer "window switch"...

Hello!
AFAIK (by reading rider's manual) this switch is either next to heated grips switch (up to 1993) or on the left hand combo switch (blue-green colour), next to light low/high beam switch.
It does what is said Wink make the electric engine to move wind shield up or down Cool . Some more info http://k-technik.pytalhost.com/pdf/E%20scheibe.pdf

Rafal beat me to it.
Yup, the green switch for your thumb just above the horn button---if you have the correct switch module for the adjustable screen. Has a graphic on the switch of a helmet with wind going over it.
Since you're asking--you probly don't have that module.
Duck should have one.

Hello again...

( Hi Rafal )... Well no ! The windscreen mover ( up/down) switch is located at the center of the handlebar module, is green as you say, has the helmet icon, AND is fully functional ! One can see this "up/down" switch on the circuit diagram at bottom left. The "mystery" is the other "window adjust" switch seen on the circuit diagram at the upper left. I have the USA modified version of the "left hand switch module" and it does NOT allow any provision for raising or lowering the windscreen.

The second "mystery" is: Just what the "blazes" are the two switches at the left of the map light for ??? Both are wired and yet seem to have no function !!

The windscreen switch in the left combo switch is a year thing, not a country thing. The 96+ bikes had them.

For your extra switches I'd recommend following the wiring.

Hi Duck....

First... the color code does not agree with the schematic, but even at that they simply lead back to the fuse panel. I have not yet removed the panel to see behind and sort out the colors. Since "on" or "off" nothing is effected, I'll leave the 'mystery' for another warmer drier day. I was in the process of installing CATZ lights, had removed the windscreen panel and mechanism for lubing and wire access, and thought, "while I'm here,..why not determine what these two switches are really for ?" So, IF/WHEN I do find out, I'll post it here for all to know !

If there are switches to the left of the light, they were likely added by a PO. My bike came with dummy switch covers there.

FWIW: my "new" purple 95 K11LTSE has two dummy switches to the left and right of the map light; I'm assuming that they--and not I--are dummy because they don't move. So I'm assuming that those are simply optional mounting points for additional switches if needed.

Good evening all...

Dummy switches.... YES, I have two to the right of the maplight. However, I also have two actual switches to the left of the maplight, wired into the factory harness. One is a simple SPST, the other is a DPDT ( ie: upper ON and lower ON, with a center neutral. There is 12v potential at each of these switch locations. They were not added by a PO since the leads come directly from the harness.

FWIW: Just checked: all four switches--two to the left of the map light and two to the right--on my 95SE are dummies. It'll be interesting to see what a PO of your bike used them for.

I think you meant SPDT, no DPDT. An SPDT has three wires, a DPDT would have six wires.

What are the colors of the wires?

And there's no graphics on the switches?

Is your bike an ex-LEO bike?

Hi Duck...

You're right as usual... SPDT... there are only 3 wires NOT connection possibilities. There is one SPST and one SPDT. Both lead directly back to the harness.
