I did Drakes LED upgrade last night in both bikes. Great upgrade. Total for two bikes was about an hour. My K1100 had 3 bulbs out....no wonder it was hard to read at night. _________________ 1994 K1100RS

My clock is totally dark at night, can I assume there is a bulb out for the clock? Is it ,eant to be lit up? I really can't be bothered to pull it all apart just to fix that one bulb, so maybe I should get a kit and make the change. Is the result worth it?
I'm sure it is

Guys,
Did the Drake LED complete kit and love it! Nice and bright but not annoying. Nice to be able to see with these old eyes!

+1 for the LED kit. Mine was installed an hour after receiving it. What a difference! _________________ 1996 K1100RS SE, K1100K, K75S, Laverda 1200

And it helps FD buy bread at the same time Yep. I like mine and yes there's a bulb specifically for the clock, although I'm thinking of taking mine out since the clock reads random times now _________________ K1100RS '97

Talking about LEDs, Has anyone modified their front sidelight to get the Audi look?
I'm just about to have a go and would like the views from anyone who's had a go.
Having never taken the headlight unit apart, is there anything to watch out for? _________________ K1100LTIC |

I've done LED parking lights in both my LT and RS. Unless you want to remove the whole fairing, you need to do it in situ because you can get the lens off but not the bucket out.
Mine was pretty basic using some 12V 18 LED panels I found on Fleabay. Somebody over on your side of the pond did something a bit more elaborate that you can probably find by searching. _________________ 93 LT (x2)

Hi "Duck"......
Just HOW did you get the lens on the LT off/out ???? I see no way do it without removing the fairing and everything that goes with it..
IF its simple, I apologize in advance for being so dumb.....

The LED strips are available anywhere on the planet from here:-
These ones can be cut to any length in multiples of 3 leds and run off 12V. I used these to beef up my brake light.

1) Remove inner fairing panels.
2) Remove windscreen assembly.
3) Remove three Phillips screws that hold headlight assembly to fairing. One on each side, one on the bottom. Can't remember if you need to remove the black plastic underpanel thing to get to the bottom screw.
5) Remove six clips that hold the lens to the bucket. _________________ 93 LT (x2)

Well! Mission complete.
I've now now got 13 LEDs across the top of the headlight, and it sure looks purdy.
I'm not sure if I'm gone over the top 'cause it sure is bright.
At least other drivers can't say 'I didn't see you!'.
I've used thirteen 10,000mcd leds from Farnells (Newark.com in the States)(Part No.1581186 from both sites), thirteen 82 ohm resistors and a length of electronic stripboard.
I replaced the sidelight reflector with the stripboard with 13 LEDs in one row.
I also made a stable 5 volt supply unit to feed the circuit using a LM7805 voltage regulator to fire it up.
I ended up taking the top half of the fairing off, 'cause I had other electrical tidy-up jobs to do at the same time.
Not to much hassle to do and off in 20 mins.
Piccies to follow. _________________ K1100LTIC |
