Hi there,
I guess i would call myself a BMW "virgin".. .........in the 35 years i've had my licence,I've been riding all sorts of bikes, yet this is the first BMW i've owned!

I saw the bike on "E-Bay", and just had to have it!!
she's a 1993 k1000 RS with 38000 on the clock and starts "on the button"
I've only had the bike a couple of weeks, so i havnt had a real "feel" of her yet,...........but what do you think??.........have I got a good thing?..

Nice bike.

A '93. ABS I (ABS "cans" on the sides). Easier to work on and work with.

Good luck with that sharp looking ride.

Nice find, Chips!
My KRS is about identical. I bought it last May. It came with bar-backs which I promptly took off the bike. With my wrists/hands tiring out too quickly, I put the bar backs back on a month later. Since then, I added
"Grip Puppies", which I like very much. The price is dirt cheap...shipped, they're around ten bucks. I may try taking the bar-backs off again to check the feel.

I've been riding airheads the past twenty years; since buying this K bike it's been a real fun kick in the pants for me.

My K had 43k on it when I bought it and have put on about 6k since then.

If you don't mind me asking, how much did you pay for your '93? I lucked out with mine, on local Craigslist, for a low-ball price of 2.5k.

I know I'm going to enjoy this one for many many more years. I look forward to buying some electric clothes (probably a vest and maybe pants) since the bike has ample 700 watts to play with.

The buzz at 3.5k to 4k rpm is a bit tiresome but usually will ride above or below that buzzy range.

I replaced the fan with a used one when I bought the bike. Other than that, and some basic oil change and all, the bike seems flawless.

With soon putting on a new set of long distance tires, I look forward to more and more weekend rides and then-some.

I've cycle-camped a couple of times with it down here in the Texas hill country and have enjoyed the K ride on the winding back roads.
Hope you enjoy your 'new' find as much as I've enjoyed mine.
Cheers

Thanks for the comments guys....I'm sure i'm going to have fun on this "new" Bike Very Happy
I got the Bike from a garage that was selling it on "e-bay".
It was an Insurance-job,but all that was wrong with it was a "small" electrical-fire in the wireing-loom...which had been replaced.
It couldnt have been that bad, because i cant find any trace of fire-damage??
At £1400............I couldnt let that pass could I? Wink

I'm kinda small at 5'6, so when I first sat on it,I struggled to get my feet on the ground! Laughing
Anyway, not to be beaten i grabbed the "beast" by the horns......and off I wobbled...........after a couple of weeks, i reckon we're getting along just fine Cool
cheers
Dave

The stock seats on these bikes are notoriously horrible. Have the seat redone and while you're at it get the front sides shaven down a bit which should help get your feet closer to the ground.

A good bike, no doubt. Good choice! Mine's a '95, same colour. Very few week points, as far as I'm concerned, and thinking about similar motorcycles from the mid-90's.

Confort or look-wise? Either way, I don't agree much, Duck. At least for short trips, I find it ok; no sore bottom here. Wink As far as the look, I'm not a big fan of modifications. I think i fits K's design well.

Regards!

Try a couple of 12-14 hour days back to back in a stock seat and get back to me. Rolling Eyes

not everybody is that silly. but of course, it seems the older the k gets, the more the owners do those things with them though.

of course, i have two corbins and no stock seat so i can't say much.

What do you mean? I ride like that all of the time. It's supposedly a sport-touring bike that's built for that kind of riding.

The stock seats have been horrible from the early days of the K100s and K75s. There's a special place in hell for the designers of the stock K bike seats.

Well, for that purpose you may be right, I can't argue. Smile What seat did you chose to improve the comfort?

I never travelled not even close to that. I ride my K daily, to commute. 55 to 60 miles, on average. For this, it's enough. I only complain about the handlebars and the noise in the helmet. Nothing that some barbacks and an Aeroflow screen won't solve. Right, Duck?

just like running marathons isn't for everyone, doing that long a ride isn't for every rider. like i said though, it does seem that more often than not, a classic k owner is prone to those kind of rides.

I have a non longer in production Corbin Rumble Seat for city riding but it's too hard for touring.

For touring I have a Corbin Canyon Dual Sport. It's an OK seat but way better than stock. It's better with an Alaska Leathers medium sheepskin.

If you can stand the tractor seat look then a Russell Day Long is a great seat. That's what I'm currently running on my LT. Rick Mayer makes some awesome seats too. I have one I'm planning to install on the RS but I have my cruise control servo under the seat which won't work a the Mayer seat since it's got a stock K1100 seat pan that sticks down under the rider. Over the winter I'm going to look into relocating the cruise control in order to run the Mayer seat.

BMW also made what is known as a "Comfort Seat" which is round and scooped out. Those aren't perfect but are way better than the stock "square" seat.

I'm not a fan of the Aeroflow. They are practical but too ugly if you ask me.

I've tried bar backs and K75C bars. Neither worked very well for riding turns hard since I couldn't get my weight in over the bike so I went back to the stock setup. If you're just commuting though then bar backs would probably help. What works best FOR ME is the Master Yoda Riding Position.

Sorry for the off-topic, chips5646. I guess I could say K's topics are like cherries: "you eat one after the other", like we say in portuguese. Smile

By the way, that reminded me K LT's seat, which has a slightly different shape - more comfortable? Has anyone try to fit it into a K RS? Would it fit?

Thanks!
