|
|
It's been appx 1800 miles since I rebuilt my LT's forks and until recently, I had to put up with some very harsh high-speed compression damping. Small, sharp or sudden impacts were rattling my fairing (and my fillings!), but I put up with it. A few weeks ago I switched my dry-rotted, rock-hard Macadams to Pilot Road II's and can feel the front suspension harshness minimized a bit, but much of it still comes through.
I filled the fork tubes to the required amount of oil, but used 10W; could this be the source of my harshness?
I am 260lbs and the bike has 76K; the rear shock is probably in dire need of replacement ASAP...sniff, sniff.

U say U rebuilt them?
New springs? New bushings?
Did U just replace the seals?
I chaged ny seals due to weeping. Then I had one blow again.
COMPLETELY dissasemble EACH fork leg OFF the bike.
Clean all the gunk out. New fork spring set. New spaces with the kit. All new seals just cause I was in there. Put it all back together
WOW oh WOW what a smooth ride it is now. Stiff yet complient, bike NEVER felt this good. I no longer need to eagle eye every fooking bump, manhole cover, and small road defect. I see it, I feel it, but it's sooooooooooooooooooooooo sooth & controlled. _________________ 1993 K1100RS that I'd rather be riding FAST!

Nah, just seals; it was a 'get it back in service' job.
My head bearings will need replacing too, so another front end job is not too far off. _________________ 2003 BMW K1200RS

I think that's it then.
Take it all the way apart, get the bronze bushings from BMW and what ever good after market springs float your boat.
Clean it all up, and put it back together.
My bike was also riding harsh. The new rear shock only controlled the
Back of the bike. The front was still harder than the 94 I had before my 93.
Doing the front the right way transformed it. _________________ 1993 K1100RS that I'd rather be riding FAST!
