I finally found the jpeg from Ebay. This road warrior bike was on Ebay last year. For what I recall, it only sold for around 3k. Cool looking bike, I'd say.....

Not too sure about the colour scheme and a fittings but the shape is good.

Saw this on ebay - a go-faster make-better chip for the ABS1 K11s

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=300521606066&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT#ht_500wt_933

I recall reading somewhere, probably RB Racing that chips for BMWs were generally all bullshit. Anyone have any thoughts?

Don't know about other countries but chances are that won't work on a K1100 that has a catalytic converter (like US bikes do) as those also have a different Motronic from the K1/K100RS4V to deal with the O2 sensor. The fact that those guys don't know that and think it has something to do with ABS tells you how little they know about K bikes.

Thought as much.

I've read with interest the K12 wheel conversion in the mod section on the front page. I have my eye on a rear K12 5-spoke 5x17 rim. From my measurements should fit as a replacement for my K11RS - it is really as straight forward as the post suggests?

[EDIT] Scratch that, any chance these beauties would fit without too much trouble? R1150GS spoked and gorgeous.

Project is progressing, but slowly given the lack of daylight and time. Rear wheel is bought, fingers crossed no great troubles in installing.

A couple more Qs if you gents could be so kind:

1. What would be the effect of removing the airbox and installing 4 seperate mini filters? Similar to this, but with less chrome. Can the Motronic unit and air sensor cope with these changes? How much does the forward facing inlet actually improve engine air mix?:

2. I made the mistake of getting the K11 with the gold (ish) wheels and swingarm - what's the easiest way to strip these to the bare metal? Ditto the tank - I'd like to expose the aluminium on the engine block like the original K10s, not have it covered in a thick matte black

3. I'd like to lower the rear a little - what would be a good replacement shock? Doesn't need to be adjustable, only shorter.

4. How vital is the coolant overflow? I don't recall having one on the Monster - can it e safely taken out with the radiator overflow hole closed up?

Thanks all.

3) These are decent shocks for the money:

4) You want it.

Thanks Duck - any clarification on the "you want it"? I always thought the radiator would be pressurised so I'm confused why there's an overflow at atmospheric pressure.

Two questions today!

1. A few days ago my K11RS had suddenly lost all power on takeoff, sounding as if it was choking barely registering any throttle movement until suddenly the thing came to life and shot off. This happened a few more times that morning when setting off at lights but then continued to ride fine when cruising and warmed up. I changed the fuel thinking it may have been a bad batch and it ran OK for 3 days. Last night the problem came back, but this time more persistent (all the way home at every light), reading almost zero rpm, spluttering at standstill and takeoff before whooshing back into life. I'm suspecting a fuel pump as the spluttering started on braking when the fuel sloshed to the front of the tank. There's half a tank still in there so low petrol is not the issue. Any thoughts?

2. I've recently taken off the fairings and front switches off my K11 only to find the horrendous key upstand just infront of the forks. Looks like the K100 didn't have this. So:

a. where does the K100 hide its ignition key hole?

b. Is there a yoke from a K100 which would fit the K1100 forks? I know there's a fork manufacturer and dimension change in the late 80s (0.5mm?) but internet information is a little contradictory on the overlaps.

In other news, I've just sourced some spoked R1100GS wheels which I'm very excited about.

1) Fuel filter? Electrical gremlin?

2a) It's in the dash pad, not the fork tree.

2b) Different fork diameter so you'd have to downgrade back to K100 forks, wheel, brakes.

Same reason you have one in a car. It's part of the cooling system.

This I understand and is worst case - can this 0.5mm difference (as I understand it) not be forced to fit? Or is the dia. difference more than I think?

I'm down in California right now but can check when I get home around March 11. When I built my K75 with K1100 forks, brakes and wheel I ended up using K1100 fork trees too because the forks were too big for the K75 fork trees. I can't remember how different the diameters are.

For the ignition I just used the K75/K100 style mounted in the dash pad. That was easy because the bike has a K75 main wiring harness so it plugged right in. In your case you could do the same but it would require some minor rewiring to adapt the K75 switch to the K1100 main wiring harness.

The wiring for my digital voltmeter runs through where K1100 ignition used to be:
