Hello, k11og-ers.

Got a wild hair and bought a '91 K100RS the Sunday after Turkey Day, the 1st Beemer I've ever owned (but I did have a couple of Bimmers and the '76 2002 still ranks as the best car I ever had). Why? I just like the way they look!

I've been exclusively Harley-ing lately but have owned several Hondas (including a RC30) and a couple of Yamahas (the RD400F was a blast). My first "real" motorcycle was a '65 Honda Dream but I'd had a couple of "box scooters" as a teenager, before I got my DL, and I always count the Whizzer I bought when in the 6th grade, too, even though I never got it to run. Just to put that into perspective, I have three grandsons and a granddaughter older than that.

Since buying the RS, I've also acquired a '97 Husaberg FE400 and a '01 KTM 640 Adventure (within the last 23 days), in addition to the '07 Harley Street Rod, the '83 Harley Tour Glide, the chopper project based on a '78 H-D FXE drive train with a really graceful handmade gooseneck hardtail frame (project presently stalled - too much riding to do), and an ol' '74 XLCH.

I found it interesting that the performance and ergos of the RS are almost exactly the same as the Street Rod's, though the Street Rod is much more "cammy" and the rush that comes on at 7K revs is something to be experienced.

I took the RS on its 1st camping trip this weekend - to the first Enduro I'd ever been to - and the odo read 37006 when I got to the race site. Hardly broken in, eh?

I meant to take a pic of the RS, loaded for camping, before getting underway but was running late and forgot. I meant to take a pic of the camp at the Enduro site but was so busy taking pics of the racers that I forgot again. I did think to stop in a nice little rest area on the way home and, finally snapped a pic or two. Yes, I took about three times as much stuff as I needed but that's normal and I didn't freeze in the tent Saturday night with temps in the mid-to-low 30s.

Well, it's rack time for this ol' retired Bubblehead. Gotta get up and go register the two dirty-bikes today. Was gonna post a pic but it's been a long day/weekend and I'm too tired to figure out how, but apparently I need to open an account with a photo hosting site.

Later, Peeps.
(edit: Here goes nuttin'!)

And another pony loaded for his 1st camping trip:

What I had there was about four times as much stuff as I needed, and much of it the wrong stuff.

- The tent itself was a little Eureka Autumn Wind (supposedly 2-person - Yeah, Right! (if both are really skinny and "friendly" and have no gear with 'em, maybe). First time I'd used it - nice tent, if a bit smaller than I'm used to.
- The air mattress was too big for the tent and the rain gear was unneeded (better to have it and not need it than ..... ).
- Didn't need the change of clothes and it was a bit too cool to shift to the shorts and flip-flops once "home" was built, but it wasn't cold enough to need either the silk or the thermal u-wear, the wool watch cap, or the wool scarf (temps dropped to the mid-to-low 30s overnight - good camping weather). The down-filled Land's End camp boots were nice once the riding boots came off.
- The big green "backrest" is an ancient, cheap-a** Coleman sleeping bag. It's a piece of crap but we are well acquainted and with the old wool Army blanket underneath and the Mexican blanket (Hussong's Cantina, Ensenada, 3Jun79) on top, it was fine, and warm enough, again. My mummy bag might have been a better choice and, rolled, is about half the size and a third the weight of the Coleman.
- The sidecases were filled with camera gear tho' I didn't use the Handi-Cam nor the tripods. I also didn't need the hatchet to drive in the tent stakes nor, for that matter, the tent stakes (no wind to speak of).
- The heated vest & glove liners & 'troller were unneeded as were the heavy gauntlets.

I weighed the Jo's U-Pack when I got home - 35.5lbs!

I do have two "2-bedroom" tents, both big enough to park a bike inside along with a queen size air mattress, a chair or two, and a table. They're a bit bulky to carry on a bike but, I confess, I have done so, along with two chairs and the aforementioned folding table.

You should have seen my camps before my little trailer I pulled behind the ol' Harley bagger was stolen! Laughing Laughing Laughing

Well, I thought so 'til I looked it up and found that it's "Perlsilber." I think Cadillac copied it for the Escalades (or hope so, really, as I have another "tailcone" I need to paint. Couldn't bear to drill holes in the original to mount a luggage rack!).

When I started moto camping again this last spring I hauled out my old sleeping bag, tent and pad. And was amazed at how big they were. So I went to an REI monthly return sale and got a new (used once!) awesome Quarterdome 2-person tent, a new Big Agnes 2.5" inflatable mattress, and a new Big Agnes sleeping bag. Believe it or not, all three fit in the old sleeping bad stuff sack with plenty left over, though I use the trick Big Agnes Pumphouse dry bag/bellows as the stuff sack and mattress inflator. With my Gaz-470 stove, Peak-1 stacking stainless cookset, and Big Agnes inflatable pillow the Pumphouse is just about full.

The full Pumphouse fits in a K sidecase with room for a change of clothes, fleece and pair of keens. Camping stuff has come a LONG way in ten years, in quality, durability and especially size!

I would guess we are talking camp shoes. They do have a varied selection to choose from.

Welcome Garfey. Very nice bike and better yet...- you're out riding it, and camping no less.
