I have a 1994 k1100Lt. It has a BMW Alarm System. It does not look like a factory install, Scotch loks used in the relay bay. The PO said that it had not worked in the ten years that he owned the bike. The questions:
Is there a disable circuit? Is this a grounding or opening circuit?
When I disconect the wiring will that cause an open in start/run circuits?
I have looked for a wiring diagram for the alarm and it would appear that these are not published.
Any help or even ideas would be greatly appreciated. _________________ Lee Richter

i have the alarm installed, but it looks like it was done by a professional. i have disabled mine by pulling its inline fuse that is closest to the battery. this method i discovered when researching why the previous owner said "it never worked". i'll take a photo when i get home to illustrate.
from what i can tell, it has not impacted the battery or performance of my bike. in fact, i believe that my battery died once because of the alarm system being set off while the bike was moved onto a trailer.
i will also look into the manual i have for it. it may have a wiring diagram or at least installation instructions. if it does i will scan it and post it online.
on a side note, if you are getting rid of your system, do you have the red led on the dash pad? mine broke/fell off and i may be interested in yours ... _________________ (formerly) 1993 k1100rs |

the red circle is the inline fuse case. open it up and remove the fuse to disable the alarm system. pretty easy for anyone that wants to steal the bike ...
due to copyright stuff that i know nothing about, i'm not going to post the document. but i do have it scanned and would be more than happy to email it to anyone interested. just hit me up with a private message with your email account. _________________ (formerly) 1993 k1100rs |

Supercat, I sent you a PM.

Thanks for the manual.
I have a question though: what is the right button on the transmitter for? _________________ I am not a number, I am a free man.

Yeah, but they'd have to know what that inline fuse was for.
Funny story: I sold a top case on Craig's List to some K75 owner from Oregon on Craig's List. I told him that if he sent me a copy of his ignition key that I'd be happy to rekey it for him. He emailed me and told me he was nervous because I could make a copy of the key and would know his address from shipping him the top case. I emailed him back and told him that I knew enough about K bikes that if I wanted to I could hotwire and steal his bike while he was taking a leak at a rest stop. He mailed me the key. _________________ 93 LT (x2)

while true, the bike would still be pretty easy to steal with the alarm functional. especially if the alarm sounds are not enabled and it is just set to turn the dash led on. super useful ... _________________ (formerly) 1993 k1100rs |

Ok, thanks to supercat I have the alarm system removed. If anyone wants it, cost is the cost of freight to you. The system looks complete, no obvious cutting and splicing from BMW, just express ship your first born. The dash LED is broken. What I do not have is the remote. I understand that it is still available. The PO stated that it didn't work in the 10 year that he had the bike, however he also said that he did not get a remote from the OO. I don't know if it works or not. When I sell my HD I'll take the LoJack out and install it. On the back of the CPU: BMW Security Alarm System 95 00 5 000 100. _________________ Lee Richter

Old alarm systems on 'old' bikes = More trouble than they are worth.
Save weight and save a potential battery draining problem when you least need it (don't ask me how I know) by removing it, or paying someone to remove it for you (cost me £30 to have this done)
BTW, no-one takes any notice of an alarm going off anyway. Buy a good chain for home and a disc lock for the road if you are worried.
Just my 2p's worth
