Hi, Haven't had a scooter for 15yrs now and have just gotten hold of a 93 K1100RS in almost new like condition. Over the years have had; 90K75RT, 85 K100RT, 88 R100RS, 76 R90/6, 70 R75/5 and numerous other brands [I've been doing this since 10yrs.old]. My favorite was the 85 K100RT, although the fairing was a bit much, liked the R-RS fairing better. Have heard rumors of the legendary K1100, some consider this to be the best Beemer ever, well soon I'll see for myself. Stared out with the idea of getting hold of a Kawa Versys, looked at a couple of 2 valve K100's and then came across a beauty of a scooter, forgot the Kawa idea bought the Beemer and re-joined the BMWMOA. The BMWMOA community alone is a BIG part of this moto experience and reflecting back is what I enjoyed the most. See you on the Road. _________________ The most accurate thing one can say about anything is nothing..........but thats not much help either. |

Wise choice. There's not much point in buying a K100 these days IMO. Either get a K75 for the smooth engine or a K1100 that has better brakes, more HP, a paralever final drive and radial tires.
Welcome. I'm sure you'll enjoy your new ride. _________________ 93 LT (x2)

Great K bike info here on this site.

Ahoy Ernie, and SugarHill, weekend ride sounds great, so does the Virginia trip. I'm very close to Manchester VT 5 mi North on RT.30. I'll submit a photo but I need to put it back together first, fork seal and boots, battery, brake fluid and coolant change, minor stuff. Ahoy to Flying Duck, it is enjoyable just to tinker on it for now, the exhaust stud bolts even still turn, these are truly well made machines a pleasure to wrench for sure. _________________ The most accurate thing one can say about anything is nothing..........but thats not much help either. |

| Welcome Nordic Norm. I am a new member as well (approx a month) and I have a 93 K1100RS also. I have a 04 R1150GS and a 03 H-D Ultra Classic too. The K1100 is a very smooth ride and I look forward to putting many miles on it. Currently it has 33,720. Good luck with your bike. If you ever get to the Blue Ridge Parkway e-mail in advance as I only live 25 miles from Blowing Rock, NC where the parkway comes through. |

Thanks DaddyT, been down the parkway a few times in the 90's. Will try to remember to e-mail you as may be down your way this summer. Think i'll put Nordic Norm on the helmet, not so clandestine that way. _________________ The most accurate thing one can say about anything is nothing..........but thats not much help either. |

To echo what Ernie said- we need a springtime ride/lunch meet.
Whenever this white stuff is down to a reasonable level and off the roads (your piles must be as high as ours) we should all meet for some twisty road fun. WRJ/West Lebanon area might be central for Vt & NH members.
Think spring!

Hi, John,
You're all invited to come visit me. Every day while going to work, I travel US191 to get to the mine. Just after I turn off to the mine gate, 191 proceeds with twists and turns and changes in altitude from just over 4000ft. to well over 9000ft. for the next 80 or so miles. Of course, I work in Arizona, so you'd have a slight trip to get here - and return! And John, I have 2 K75 bikes, one of which has a dual seat, so if you and Cathy did show up, I have a bike on which both of you could ride. _________________ Ride Safe,

Hi, Drake,
It IS possible. It does have a dual seat and the normal seats will fit a K1100. Yes, it only has 70 horsepower, but how many times did you see 2-up on an airhead in years past, and the most powerful airhead BMW sold was rated at only 70 horsepower.
When is HDIV? I doubt I can make it (work schedule), but there is always the possibility I might. _________________ Ride Safe,

Uh, that would be HD (Hungree Dungee) - I'm sure Drake will be there - he's hosting. I haven't heard Drake make any noises about coming out here for HMSP ... _________________ Jim

To be honest I've toyed with the idea of surprising you east coast bastages and showing up unannounced. But there's just SO MUCH slab between here and there once you get past The Rockies that I can't bring it upon myself to do it. _________________ 93 LT (x2)

That - and if you showed up unannounced, you might end up on the floor or a couch... Either one of which is definitely better than the roll-a-ways they rent... _________________ Jim
