Hey Gang,

Some of my tools are back in Maryland. I have to buy a new socket so can someone tell me what size the pivot lock nut is on the pivot bolt on the final drive?

Thanks,

But if you can beg or borrow an SAE socket, a 1-1/16 is a very good fit (I tried it).

Good luck Rich.

If 1 1/16 is a tight fit then the right size is probably 27mm. If it was a loose fit then probably 26mm. The exact equivalent is 26.9875

Drikko,

You metric/inch conversion maniac. Very Happy

My caliper showed 27mm. The inch socket is 12 point, so it leaves a bit of slop- but I would use it confidently.

I have no idea why on earth the USA one of the very last hold outs in the inch/feet/mile/pound STUPID measurements.
I did my part last year when I bought the K100RS- it is a non-USA model- the speedo/odo is Km only. And a "Euro" headlight switch.

Last year when Paul and Darryl- from NZ- visited, I rode with them for a couple days and tried to give them metric "km's to go" estimates, doing the calc in my head.

Archaic measurement needs to be GONE.

Archaic measurement my arse (butt), Whitworth, BSF, Poles, perches, rods, chains, furlongs, cubits, hands, fathoms, etc. Now THAT'S archaic.
IIRC, didn't AF (SAE) Imperial bolts come from your side of the pond?
UK bikes have Km & Miles on the speedo, ideal when I ride back to the fatherland again later this year.
BTW The Norton has AF bolts on the frame, BSW threaded studs with AF nuts on the engine & the front wheel spindle is 16MM diameter.

US speedos also have MPH on the big numbers and a smaller inner set of numbers for kms. Handy when heading to Canada.

In the mid-seventies, after Canada had managed to pull it off, the US attempted to go metric but, like a lot of government initiatives here, failed miserably.

My undergrad degree is in engineering. We were taught in both systems but leaned towards the non-metric units a bit.

NASA found out the hard way why you shouldn't mix the two:

Great Rich.

Sorry about the odd inch/metric rant sidetrack.

Hope your wrenching is going well and will be on the road soon.

John
