Very nice, and quite a trick looking brake/tail light conversion.
How was your trip home on the beast? Feel a bit different with powerband, handling, etc? _________________

I actually ended up flying home. Plan to go back down next week and ride it home up the coast about 4/18 or so... JO heads north on 4/17 so a week from Saturday we have plans to ride. Yeehaw....
I've had a couple of K100RS4Vs so I'm used to the powerband BUT the weird thing is that K1s have a 33:12(2.75) final drive gear ratio so it doesn't have a lot of torque. It's like riding a K75. There isn't a lot of roll-on power at 60mph so I have to chop it down to third to make a decent pass. When I get it home the first thing I'm going to do is swap in an RS 31:11(2.82) final drive or probably even an LT 32:11(2.91) final drive to give it some more spunk. I'm even considering taking one back down there with me because riding the coast with more torque would be more fun.
I couldn't get the TBs synched because there's an air leak in one of the boots between the TBs and the head. (Pretty common for a 20 year old bike. I've helped two local guys with 90 K75RTs replace those boots recently.) It's only $80 to do all four of those new from Chicago BMW so I'll replace those with new ones when I get it home. In the interim I'll take some used ones down there with me from a 94 LT that I parted recently. _________________ 93 LT (x2)

It's a DIY:
The LED license plate frame came from a rat bike that I parted out. It wasn't in the greatest shape so I repainted it with some black spray paint.
The LEDs in the side lenses are six LED waterproof truck marker lights for about $6/each on Fleabay. When you trim them down they just fit into the sides of the K rear lens.
Since the bulb monitoring unit on Ks doesn't like LED brake or tail light bulbs I just get rid of the BMU as follows:
Short the front brake switch wire(Gray/Red) and the rear brake switch wire(Gray/Green) to the Rear brake light(Gray/Yellow.)
Short the #2 fuse and parking light(Gray/White-2 wires) to the tail light wire(Gray/Black)
I bought the flasher unit on eBay for $20 shipped http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=110652880968
I get the LED marker lights in the sides to "wag" with the brake light by adding a $1 normally closed 12V PCB (printed circuit board) relay. _________________ 93 LT (x2)

truncated urls are truncated. just did a search on ebay using the item number at the end though, found it. could i just install the flasher to the stock light? not sure i am interested in digging that much in for the actual led replacement for the full tail light. and i could just add the side led's without having to do all the wire shorting right? sorry if the questions are basic, but i haven't done any of this before. i'll leave the alternating of main light and led's to another day. _________________ (formerly) 1993 k1100rs |

URL fixed.
I'm sure you could hook up the stock light. However, that listing doesn't give a watt or amp rating for the flasher. I wasn't worried about that since I'm using LEDs but it might a good idea to email the seller first to find out how much of a load it can handle. _________________ 93 LT (x2)
