|
|
Started reassembling the '95 Saturday, having done all sorts of stuff including cleaning throttle bodies, having the injectors done by Mr Injector, replacing the rubber mounts below the TBs, etc.
Fired it up, tuned it with a Carbtune and did a couple of miles with the bike naked around the neighborhood with some big smiles all around at the end. But then, when moving it back into the garage, first noticed a gas smell and then, when in the garage, a small but intense stream of fuel from the #1 injector area (cylinder at the front of the bike).
Had to stop--other things to do that were much less fun--but my first suspicion is that the #1 injector didn't get seated properly/secure. That'd be the simple solution; what else might I be looking for?
Thanks
Larry Johnson

Larry,
Based on the few times I removed and replaced the injectors, I think you are correct. On the 2 different K1100's I have worked on, the O-rings can get pinched as you insert them into the manifold.
Did you use new o-rings? I once put a very slight tear in an o-ring (after I tried to reinstall the injector with a used o-ring) and gas did find its way out.
Did you smear a little grease around them to help get the o-ring seated correctly?
Good luck,

Thanks, John
The o-rings were new ones supplied by Mr Injector and we did lube them.
Since that's a two-bolt removal check, we'll eyeball them carefully when we get our end-of-the-semester grading done.

IIRC,
Most times when I installed each injector I felt it go to a solid "bottom". But on one or two it didn't feel as solid- no leaks, but I was unsure about how well it was seated. _________________ John & Cathy

I had one not seat on the rail side once, but generally if you can't seat them in both ends you shouldn't be able to bolt down the rail supports. At least I wouldn't think you could. _________________ Ride safe.

Ditto on that, I had one of the rubber o-rings pinch up a bit when putting it back in and there was gas dribbling all over the place. A simple reseating cured it. _________________ Steve

Sounds right to me.
Maybe a magnifying glass to closely inspect O ring surface for dings.
Look down to the seating surfaces in the head for any crud perhaps.
Let us know how you go
