Thanks, Scott. Just a bit of wind and rain here. Granted, a bit more than we usually have, but nothing extreme. Didn't even lose power here.

I was in South Carolina the whole time, didn't notice a thing.

Steve didn't say anything was amiss at home either.

Just LOTS of heavy rain here in Sugar Hill.

BUT, not far from here- the 'Kanc Highway took a big hit...

And the State of Vermont is much worse off due to unbelievable amounts of storm run-off with many rivers going way over their banks.

Thanks for thinking of us. Three inches of rain during the day and big dry winds over night but the real story was the flooding. Tamarack farm is high and dry, just a few trees to clean up.

All fine here in Virginia Beach, lots of branches and some trees down. There was a small tornado that took out a couple of houses at the beach. We had the power out for about 24 hours, but some are still out.

But overall not too bad, given all the doom and gloom in the forecast. Looks like up north got it worse from the flooding.

Hi Guys..

In response to Scott's inquiry... As John mentioned, VT is washing itself away, and here in the Lakes Region we have more water to deal with than Mother Nature ever intended. The Pemigawassett River on which I live is over 14 feet higher and 300 yards wider than normal and many building foundations built before the US Civil War are eroding or collapsing and thus the buildings on top of them. In VT we have lost at least three historic covered bridges from the very early 19th century, and nearly EVERY secondary or rural road which crosses a stream or brook will have at some place a gaping breach or chasm where the roadway once stood. On this side of the Connecticut River, just like in VT where there is virtually no flat land, all towns and villages are either on or very close to water, either a lake of river of some sort, and unless you sit on 'high ground' you remain in danger even this morning. The local college ( Plymouth State College ) in Plymouth NH is now partially underwater as is a good part of the business area adjacent. Fortunately the town decided to build itself during the 1800's on ground somewhat higher than the then banks of the Pemigawasset river thus sparing itself from the present flood, but another prolonged rain will swap it too !

So you see, even though most homes have not lost power, contending with high water remains an issue here in NH and indeed throughout VT. The road from Killington VT over to White River Junction near where I live, and rode on just this last Friday afternoon on my way home, no longer exists. For me, the large hole in my 'wood shop' roof created by a large falling tree limb, and the torrent of water that it allowed to enter, will be a momento of Irene for a while to come!

Now.... how about that drought in Texas/Oklahoma, whats happening there ??

Very best regards...........// Ernie in NH

Ernie, we are still dealing with very high temps and lack of moisture in Oklahoma, it really would have been great had Irene come ashore around Galveston and pumped some much needed rainfall our way, but the hurricane season has just begun so maybe there is still hope for us out here.

Hi, Ernie,
I don't know how many days this year have been over 100 F here in Dallas, but it's ridiculous, something like 80 or 90. I drove back today from El Paso to my daughter's in Arlington (between Ft. Worth and Dallas) and the outside temperature at one time was 106. And there has been very little rain. The area needs the water one or two hurricanes would drop, but it would all come at once and would cause serious flooding here, too.

Very Happy

Hi Phil... Hi Allan...

WOW...! Dont know how you guys do it. The heat in your areas must be an all time record, but I really feel for the farmers and the stockmen, with dead or dying crops and little or nothing to graze on, has the GOVT declared any form of 'emergency relief' for rural folks there ??

Regards and hope the prolonged heat ends soon....

Ernie the govt has been helping those with lost crops or property damage from fires, but the stockmen have had to sell off their herds or face feeding them grain or purchasing hay from out of state. Most in the Tulsa vicinity have just held on to their breeding stock and sold everything else months ago. We did manage to get a few brief showers a couple of weeks ago that have lowered the fire risk, but if we don't get a lot more soon we will be in severe danger for fires this fall.
