As my K1100RS rapidly rejects all rubber materials on it, I am up to the rear brake master that failed 100% this week, fortunately not under a critical load. Are there any tips, suggestions, commentaries or funny stories to share that will help me get through this little project? My parts are scheduled to arrive tomorrow and I hope to knock this project out quickly. So far I have replaced the rear main seal, front fork seals, front brake lines, fuel pump and rear tire.

Thanks!

Steve

sounds like you are on route to be replacing all the rubber stuff. I went thru my '95 in winter '09 and replaced almost all/anything rubber.
Most all if it was dry rotted or cracked, soon to be leaking if not already.
Fuel lines, vac hoses, coolant hoses, rad cap gaskets, injector o-rings, tb boots, injector manifold o-rings etc......
It all started for me with the clutch nut o-ring being bad and leaking.

What I didn't do was the valve cover gasket or cover bolt grommets, and the brake cyl seals. I probably should have since I had all that stuff already disassembled or fluids drained.

I figure on doing the same to my '97 in the next year or two.

Gday mg
Had the same problem recently on my 93 1100RS. The fix was quick and painless. Remove cylinder assembly leaving fluid lines attached. Clean the exterior of the cylinder thoroughly.Lifted the cylinder to the highest point beside the bike that the lines allow. Position a 2 litre ice cream container 2/3 full of brake fluid next to the cylinder and immerse it. Remove the piston assembly and fit the new item remaining submerged. Drain and wipe off the cylinder ( care needed to keep the fluid off paintwork). Refit cylinder , no bleeding required. Have a beer while you admire your handiwork.

OK a couple of questions. First is it installed or are you testing it dry? when you assembled it did you lube the rubbers with a little brake fluid? Also how far are you pushing it in? Not sure about the rear but do know if you push the front master cylinder to far it will stick.
