|
|
I am looking for a helmet system for me and my wife to communicate. It seems most all systems have both great and terrible reviews, so I am not sure what to believe. I am looking for advice on what you have used and works. As always I want the best bang for my buck. We wear full faced helmets and ride two up. I would like a system that I would be able to communicate with another unit on a second bike as I also ride with my family, but to start it would just need to be between rider and passenger.
I would like to be able to listen to music or get phone calls also but those are added features that are not required.
I tried a search but didn’t find much. If there is a thread I missed a link would be fine.
If I buy new these are two I like:
http://www.amazon.com/Sena-SMH10D-Bluetooth-Helmet-Communication/dp/B0054CVBKC
http://www.amazon.com/Scala-Rider-Cardo-G4-Powerset/dp/B003SVR4ZW
Used I found a
Scala Q-2 set of two for $125 (1 year old)
What would you recommend?
Thanks _________________ 94 K1100RS |

I used to use the Scala Rider Q2's which were OK but not enough volume for my liking. Have upgraded to the G4 and I'm very happy with it - plenty of volume now infact on full power its too loud. Currently used with a Zumo 550 for music as well. Tend to use the stereo cable for this as the 550 is dual mono output and not particularly good. The G4 can accept full stereo on Bluetooth so I'm thinking of changing to the 660 to have that feature. _________________ 1980 CB900FA

I should add what you SHOULD NOT buy.
We have used Nolan 102 modular helmets for the past 4 years. Largely because Cathy has to wear glasses all the time and she would rather not squeeze them through the eye opening of a full-face helmet.
We had gone with the Nolans because of the available "N-com" that integrates into the side of the helmets. But these have proven to be fragile with us replacing one headset and one control unit.
My opinion- stay away. But unless you are buying an intercom unit AND helmets, you won't be looking at these.
Let us know what you decide on- we are looking for a new system also.

Thanks for the input so far. I am not in a hurry to buy a set, I have just started looking. I am attempting to get my wife into longer rides currently 1-2 hours is all she wants to ride depending on weather and road conditions. I think some of it is she cant talk to me while riding, she somewhat agrees, but is not convinced about longer rides, yet. _________________ 94 K1100RS |

I have a pair of "Interphone F4" Bluetooth intercoms.
My big complaint with them is that, with ear plugs, they are not loud enough.
When I contacted the manufacturer, they recommended that I stop wearing earplugs.
I chose to stop using the F4s instead.
PM me if you want them at a bargain price. _________________ '02 - GL1800

I have just bought the Sena units. They work well in the living room, but haven't been able to try them on the bike yet. There are some good prices out there for the Sena's and Rocket Moto (an authorized Sena dealer) is offering a group buy price on the ADV rider forums. One of the features that sold me on the Sena was that they have an optional input for earbuds instead of the speakers in the helmet. I'm looking forward to trying them out in anger! _________________ Larry

| The Sena setup works fine but I am finding getting the settings done correctly confusing. I ride with a friend who bought half of the set I bought. They worked great in the beginning but still had "operators confusion" to deal with. Lately I am having issues with my set but I think it is a programming problem still. They are a stout product and the sound is good. I have the Sena that one uses custom ear buds. The speaker in the helmet was not good because of all the wind noise (and I am half deaf) so I went with the non speaker model. You got time so read on to other comments. |

I bought a Sena SMH10 so I could listen via Bluetooth to music and navigation directions from my HTC Evo 4G smartphone. I've never used the Sena for bike-to-bike communication, but it does everything I want and it seems to be a well-made, well-thought-out unit. _________________ Kenji

I've been using IMC Motorcom for years. Cost fifty bucks plus a small Cobra. Push to talk rather than noisey vox. Bike to bike, rider to passenger, but no phones or music, yay. _________________ '93 K1100LT
