I know some of you like riding without helmets sometimes so thought I would plead with you not to!

One of our guys took a tumble on his buell yesterday, he left us to go home and fell off. It is strange as it was a straight bit of road so no real reason for it to happen.

9 broken ribs, 2 fractured vertebrae but no nerve damage fortunately, punctured lung, big gash on the arm even with his full leathers, but no gravel rash even though he appeared to slide 50+ metres down the road, helmet crushed on one side and he was unconscious and can't remember what happened but he's OK (no helmet he would have been dead guaranteed 110%), it will all fix up. Bike's not too bad and he had a go-pro on it but we aren't sure if it was running at the time as his ex-wife managed to get it before the police got to it!!

So my plead is DON'T BE A DICKHEAD PUT THE FUCKING HELMET ON!!!

I concur. I believe that everyone has a right to choose (in Texas for the moment anyway) and I don't begrudge those who don't wear a helmet. I won't go around the block without a helmet because I spent a number of years working accidents and have seen enough gore........I don't want any of it to be mine.

Locally, a gal was riding her BICYCLE and fell off going down a grade at about 25mph. Broken ribs, dislocated shoulder, lots of road rash but because she had on her little bike helmet, no brain injury.

I tried riding without a helmet once. All it did was make my eyes water and I could hear the wind whistling through my scalp.

No problem here. You only get one brain.

Cathy works with head injury patients- NOT pretty.

No one in our family gets on a MC, bicycle, skis or snowboard without a good brain bucket.

I personally have broken 2 bicycle helmets while on a mountain bike, and I am not drooling into my oatmeal (yet!).

Haven't been on a motorcycle for a while but have had two weird incidents in the last five weeks where I'm convinced my headgear kept me out of the hospital. One on my road bicycle and one on a horse. At least motorcycling you usually don't have to avoid low branches!

Sometime I even think that just riding a motorcycle is kind of crazy, that damn thing won't even keep upright if you have to leave it in an emergency, not speaking of parking in a slope...
So riding without protection is really too scary...

Bell Helmets had a great advertisement slogan back in the 1970's that summed it up perfectly:
"If you have a $10 head, buy a $10 helmet. If your head is worth more, buy a Bell."

Here in Illinois ATGATT amounts to a dorag, Harley store t-shirt and jeans. We're gaining far more of these characters than we're losing, can a jillion HD riders be wrong?

I've heard of a toerag, but not a dorag! It's OK I googled it, we call the people wearing them wankers.

By the way the buff bloke on the Harley is flying a Union Jack, which goes a looonnnggg way to explaining the situation....

I'm sure you did not mean to say "buff bloke" - that would indicate someone who has a really in shape body - and as you pointed out, the guy has a few wrinkles...

Ah, the 'ole language situation strikes again Smile Buff ie 'in the buff' means as nature intended here. I always liked the saying 'If god had meant us to go about in the nude, we would have been born that way...".
