Aw come on now- everybody admit it- we all have dropped some little screw, washer or nut down into some unreachable spot. Then after half an hour or so of #@!&^**%$# and giving it up for GONE, just grabbed a replacement.

Yes, I plan on pulling the tranny and taking a look at the rear seal and clutch. With the miles and condition, I'm already planning on a new clutch.
Here is the modified (cleaned-up) frame:
No seat latch plate or seat attachment pins, no center stand handle, no fairing mounts, and chopped rear. Plain and simple.
After removing the steering assembly, I noticed the bearing races are worn. So I will be replacing the steering head bearings as well.
Now, I need to figure out what I'll be doing with the ignition switch. I am thinking of relocating to under the seat (as was suggested to me on this site). But I hate to lose the steering lock.

The "last" evidence of ABS...
Only one bit of strangeness: a brown/white (BR/W) wire coming from the ABS Control Unit plug leading to the left-hand combi-switch?
By the wiring diagram, this wire should have led to a "diagnostic plug."
Anyone seem this before?

While browsing this site, I think found the source for solutions I have been seeking:

This Italian company has both universal clip on handlebars and rear sets.
Finally, it seems I have no other option for exhaust system than Remus. Mind you, I think it's a nice system, but I was hoping for a little more non-standard solution.
I was hoping that RB Racing (http://www.rbracing-rsr.com/blackhole/bmwk100exhausts) would have something, but they haven't put they "have not fitted a K1100 in the last 22 years." 
Also, I am thinking of reinstalling the airbox and all of its wonderful hoses when I put the bike back together. I'm not convinced that I can find an esthetic alternative. Besides, it kinda completes the boxiness of the motor.

We have a local bike pipe shop here who does anything you want ie conti replicas, megaphones etc. Might be worth seeing what's available locally.

Thanks for the tip; I will look around again. I found one local Harley custom shop that would take a look, but I got the impression their headers pipes would be more expensive than a full Remus system.

So I ordered today my K1200RS instrument panel.
I so hope it'll work with the electronics on the K1100RS. I figure all the indicators are the same.
What can be the problem?

Got my "new" front fork and K1200RS instrument panel this afternoon.
The place I bought them from probably should have shipped them separately...
Instead, they packaged the instrument cluster on the top of the fork. Since the package was so heavy, I think the delivery service placed the package at the bottom as they loaded their van.
Subsequently, the backside of the instrument cluster got smashed.
Now, I get to see how good the Swedish Postal System reclamation service is.

Damn, bad luck, and bad packaging. Fragile things in with heavy non fragile things never works unfortunately. Our postal service would just say too bad, they packed it wrong....

For my entire life working around vehicles, I have been warned of the evils of getting brake fluid on painted parts.
Well, I think these cautionary tales are rubbish! At least when it comes to Glasurit painted BMW fuel tanks.
For more than 24 hours I have soaked my fuel tank with DOT4 brake fluid, hoping to remove the beautiful Azure Blue.
Nothing! Actually put a nice shine on the tank.
With everything so environmentally friendly these days (especially here in Sweden) it's really disappointing (read "difficult") to find a paint removal substance that actually works.
I guess I need to go professional and speak with the auto paint people. They must have something that we mere mortals (read "amateurs") cannot obtain.

Thankfully, the salvage place has one more in stock.
Unfortunately, the damaged one was the better looking of the two. I'm hoping I can get my money back and keep the damaged one.
Then, I'd order the other and make a undamaged, nice-looking one from the parts.

That is probably a warning sign.
Besides my K100RS, I have a 2004 R1100S Boxer Cup (yes, I didn't sell it) and was looking for a different exhaust- not that the Laser system on it is bad.
RB Racing has an "interesting" website- half information, half comedy show.
But when I went on some R-S bike forums (Boxertrix, Group R1100S) the opinions were less than favorable. Some of RB Racing's information seems to be more theory than fact.

I just ordered my Remus exhaust.
It looks nice. And I'm sure it's loads lighter than the stock one.
Kinda sucks having older bikes that aren't "classics" yet. Seems that when they become classics, everybody starts making parts for them again.

Been meaning to ask everyone... where's a good place (besides the airbox) to locate the Air Temperature Sensor?
I want rid of the ugly, space-consuming airbox.
I don't think a solution for all the recirculation tubing is a problem, but I don't know where to relocate the Air Temp Sensor.
I'm seriously thinking about creating a new intake manifold with a place for the sensor. Something like the Cold Air Intake another member made.
What I don't know is how the injection system is affected by the length of the intakes.
I see that many keep the ribbed intake tubes, instead of attaching the manifold directly to the intakes.
Any thoughts?

Well, the place I bought my used instrument console came through today. After more than a week of waiting, I received my replacement - Free of Charge. They will take up the claim directly with the postal service.
This also means I can proceed with the installation of my "new," no-rust-sliders, no-broken-lower-triple-clamp front fork assembly. I needed to hold off pending the resolution of the damaged part; I didn't want the postal service recalling the whole package because of the broken instrument cluster.
Likewise, the sun is beginning to show itself more often and the temperatures are more plus than minus, so hopefully I can work more than a few hours on the weekends.
I need this bike ready (and running) before the BMW Biker Days in July (http://www.gapa.de/BMW_motorbike_days). I really want to celebrate 90 years of BMW motorcycles on a Beemer, not on my Honda CFR250L.

Yes, and as I begin to compare the two wiring harness, I am please to see that many of the wires (colors) are the same on the K1200RS as on the K1100RS. It was as I hoped. The instruments are really the same, just the circuitry has been updated. But time will tell.
I will keep everyone updated.

Make sure you empty all the K1200 electricity out of the wires before you put them in the K1100 or the electrons will be incompatible. To do this hang the harness up vertically with the bottom end in a bucket of salt water.
