|
|
All,
I commute up the A2 into London daily on my K1100LT which is fitted with a top case and the small city panniers which most days is enough for the good lady and myself.
If you have ever been stuck behind mewhen I am filtering then sorry - I do try and get out of the way as much as possible!
However my question is were there any City lids for those type of panniers which were used on the K series bikes from that era. I know there were for other types such as the ones I had fitted to an old K1200RS that I had but just wanted to know teh collective's view before I waste time searching worldwide for some?
Thanks.
Best regards,
David |

I have a set on my bike. They are about 4-5 inches skinnier than the "normal" set. Here is a pic: _________________ 1997 K1100LT

Not a problem:
Not a great shot, but you can see how thin the lid is. That should give you an idea of what the two together are like. _________________ 1997 K1100LT

I have seen two types of cases for the K-bikes. Depending on the year/vintage there were at least 2 different types of latch/lock assy's, I'm thinking there were 3 versions over the years.
"City" cases like this
And regular cases like this.
The lids them selves are not interchangeable. _________________ Ride safe.

There are 2 versions of the "touring" cases, the old ones from K75/K100 (the one you can see on the red K11RS) with different locks, and the new ones from K1100. Having had both, I'd say the old ones are a tad (maybe 1 cm) smaller but cannot fit an integral helmet, so to me it's better to have the new ones. Never had an issue with them while filtering, when there's enough space for the front, the back fits including cases on those bikes (going straight). _________________ I am not a number, I am a free man.

Excellent and many thanks.
So all I need to do now is to find some K75/K100 cases or even just the lids and I should slim down enough to not worry about the case!
The Standar K1100 cases are just a bit too wide for my liking for the commute I do!
Really appreciate you posting the pictures

This is the mk. 1 (& 2) version.
This is the mk. 3 version.
The difference in width is 20 mm. |

Gidday,
Dave no offence mate, but if the difference is only 20mm a side then maybe you are riding and squeezing into places you shouldn't be going..
Hardly worth the effort but what ever floats your boat I guess.
Here in Oz all the police bikes had the little skinny cases so you see lots of these cases on K bikes that have now been sold back out of the force and are now privately owned.
Good luck finding the lids, just a local bike wreckers. _________________ Cheers Grant

Just buy a pair of "City" cases, they are almost square and much narrower than the fairing mounted mirror's, similar width to the fairing lowers. They also improve the aerodynamic stability over the lard-arse touring cases... _________________ Southern Hampshire, England.

I Think "City Cases" and "City Panniers" which I already have are one and the same thing but thanks for your reply
.

The only reason we use panniers here is to put beer and ice in to go to rallies. Having less depth would be a distinct disadvantage _________________ K1100RS '97

Good taste and Drikko are two words not usually used in the same sentence!
