|

Gidday Folks,
Ok so after I stripped out and removed the complete air box from the bike and then proceeded to clean everything in site on top of the engine casing, which had years of grime etc located down in those deep hard to get into casing holes and also the back of the carbs, radiator and anything else I could see got a little TLC and WD40 wipe over.
Yes I have committed a major sin by not taking any photos as I went along, "it'll be right" I said to myself.... but sadly not true for this novice.
What, where, how and why do the two large moulded rubber sections that sit under the tank and around the air cleaner go? thats the best I can describe them, sorry for that, but you know what I mean.
I looked up the clymers manual but could not find anything?
I know the one with the little ribs grooved in it goes on the carby side by how?
Also just what are they for? a heat shield of some sort? and with these bikes having a heat issue in summer that people talk about often, would it be better to leave them out so that the heat can escape easier from under there and open up the engine a little..
Any info and pictures would be great as I now have the bike all completed and ready to get back on the road
I took these pix on the weekend.

Hi Grant,
I think you are referring to the heat shield - which is comprised of various rubber bits.
Take a look here: http://www.k11og.org/forum/viewtopic.php?p=36316&highlight=#36316
Actually, it's better to have the heat shield in place - forces the hot air out the vents - believe it or not...
Hope that helps. _________________ Jim
