Spot says she's in Eastport.

Shogs has made history!

Edit: I actually fell asleep in the middle of posting this!

No matter. All long distance riders will remember this ride of Shoganai!

Way to go, Gwen!

OK - now all the rest of you need to go to the top post and make a contribution in honor of Gwen's heroic effort - I did...

She's got to get home somehow......... Wink

She did great. There was even a newspaper article written about her ride that was linked on her FB. Interesting read.

Thanks to all who followed and supported my effort.

It was the hardest ride I've ever done and I didn't realize how hard until the day AFTER I was off the clock. With all the adrenaline gone there was almost nothing left to keep me upright.

I felt like I was hung over with no desire but for more sleep and no reserve to engage in any activity.

The ride from Eastport to Boston was the hardest and the next day home was better but not great. I stopped often to rest and twice for blown fuse issues that need sorting out.

Today I feel normal so I'll be replying to emails and PM's, working thru my pictures and cleaning the bike. I've already started a list of things that need to be addressed, repaired, modified or changed.

I'll also be going thru pics and compiling the data for the IBA Certs.

On a side note, I don't believe I could do another LD ride until I have my C6-C7 fused. I've put it off for several years now and as high a tolerance of pain that I have, this ride may have put me over the edge.

For 70% of the ride I was in mild pain (scale 5 to 6)
20% almost pain free.
But for 10% I was in tearful, writhing agony.

The nerve compression is causing deep, searing, unrelenting upper back, left shoulder and left arm pain. By the end at Eastport my left arm felt twice as heavy as my right and on the way home I could barely use it to pilot the bike.

I need to have 3 major surgeries over the next 24 months so I don't know if I'll be ready to ride out to visit Duck in 2015.

I hope so though and that is the goal I'm setting for myself. I also need to continue to loose weight and get physically in better shape.

Very Happy Very Happy

Good morning all...

An article appeared in the Quoddy Tides ( local Eastport area newspaper ) highlighting Gwen and her ride.. I asked her IBA friend Jeff Augustine to convert it to JPG which he did so hopefully I could reproduce it here for all the K11OG members in other countries etc.. who tracked this arduous ride in both directions !!

Hope it works !!

Best regards... ride safe....// Ernie in NH

Hey Augie...

"Way to go ! "... I couldnt get the pic to post the way you did in a month of Sundays ! Looks great dont it ??

Now that you are an official K11OG forum member... you'll have to learn the secret handshake, and the group whistle !! You up for that ?? If so, its just a quick jaunt from Michigan to Marion VA come this first week in May 2014 ! ((( and it really dont matter what you ride !! )))

Thanks Augie.... see you sometime agin'..

Ride safe........// Ernie in NH

Whoa up there Nelly! Shocked

Augie is in da house!!! Razz
Sweet! Very Happy
I love me some caveman!

I got a message today from a member here wondering why I was so quite or not hanging around.

In short life is getting in the way. Work, the house, bills and the like.
Also I'm working very, very hard on the write up for this ride. As it turns out, I've been given a chance to write about it in the Iron Butt Magazine.

So I cannot post about it until it's been printed in the mag.

The mag. write up will be a tightly cleaned up version with the focus on the LD part of the ride. When I post about it here it will be in a more fleshed-out, humanistic and for more personal with incites I'll not put in the mag.

Please bare with me.

I'll let you know here when it goes to print.
