I must say ,, there is nothing like coming up behind traffic traveling 50 MPH , shifting down to 3rd gear ,, watching for an passing opportunity,,hitting 2nd gear, bring the RPM's to 5500, and roll the throttle as you rocket out and in around the car in front of you,, out of the path of oncoming cars, watching the RPM's run up to 8500 and back down as you slow to traffic speed ,,,shift to 3rd and move up to the two cars in front of you as the passing lane opens up ,, hit 2nd again ,crack the throttle and shoot out around the two cars in front ,, shift to 3rd and 4th and pull away as you slowly drop to a comfortable cruise again,,, for those of you who would like the 6th gear,,, I ask why?,,, This bike will pull easily at 100MPH, and take me to 140MPH,, at anytime I like ,,, ,,, it's a sweet around town ride ( except when it's a hot day) and a gem on the highway,,, I'm lovin my "Brick",,Thanks for indulging me,,,, Hilton

Mainly because on longer rides, lower rpms would reduce fuel consumption. But you're right. these babies are just a blast to ride.
I had mine about 6 months (and rode it every day) before I was really comfortable riding it. The seat height was the hardest thing to get used to.
My last bike was an 82 Goldwing Aspencade, so there was a serious adjustment phase for me.
In my opinion, this K series is one of the best-kept secrets of the motorcycling world.
