Hi to all members!
I bought on last fall this my K1100 lt -94 bike and I have been lurged this forum since that and now I decided to join.
Spring coming soon and driving fever rising... we have still a lot of snow out there and hard nature hit us with cold, freezing winds.
This kind of forums help me (and us, from the north) over the winter.. travel stories, tech stuff, pictures, so on. Nice, nice indeed! Smile
You can find some more info of me from my blog, where you could see some pictures and so one, of my past history of this great hobby. So I wont talk more about it now..
It is on my own language, sorry for that!
I had driven different kind of bikes almost 20 years and now it seems.. it will end to touring bikes.

Keep the wheels spinning! Very Happy

I like the LT style,,,I wonder if I could mount a set of LT handlebars on My RS without having to change much wiring besides the heated grips,,just to sit up a bit more,,,

You probably could but unless you're height challenged then you'll cop a hell of a blast of wind!!

My first RS came with "barbacks" which would be good for you if you can find a set.

My arms are ridiculously long and find the stock RS bars too close!

I think that LT bars would contact the fairing before the steering stops engaged.

I put these on my LT when I first got it:
http://www.twistedthrottle.com/handlebar-riser-barbacks-top-clamps-bmw-ducati-gas-gas-honda-kawasaki-ktm-lc4-mz-suzuki-triumph-yamaha-pair-1-rise-1-pullback
for the same reason.
I must have short arms, but they seem to go all the way down to my hands, I don't get it... <--- (That's drikko bait)

Now I have some more kilometers behind with her and have to say... I love it, even there was some problem in it.
It stopped like after every 50 km and started normally again. Finally problem solved and it was some thermal sensor, what will stop the engine, if it get too hot. It stopped it too early, just after quarter heat. After that, it worked like a dream.
Here's some photos of her:

One afternoon ride, after one hump, I realize, that something missing.
This "padding" on the box had gone and I have to do something with it..

My work friend made this kind of rack for the top box. It does not look bad at all!

This custom-made rack is handy, because now I could secure my stuff a lot better... or I just believe so!

Hope this coming next summer 2014 is better for the ride and I could really drive, like this kind of bike should do.. Now we drove together only like 7000 kms. On this coming Sunday, I will put her to sleep.. winter is near again.

Welcome to the club, Tagtubos,
You might find the bike handles better (especially at speed) without the tail trunk. Mine sits in the garage all the time. If I need to, I will strap items onto the tail rack. Keeps the weight lower down.

Thank You! Don Sproule

Have to test it on next summer, how it affect on my case. I had minor problems on high speeds with tail trunk, when I had Honda Pan European ST 1300. With this LT, I did not felt anything special yet, maybe because I have driven just a little with it... Thanks for the tip!

Agreed, putting too much weight high and back will adversely effect handling.

Also, putting too much weight back there too often can break the plastic rack it mounts on.

Yep, this plastic rack does not look so strong..

Lately I got an offer to change this bike to an old enduro/touring bike (Yamaha XTZ 750) ... I gave a long thought for it and made my decision to not to do so.
That was a hard fight! Laughing

If I use the N*rt*n without a pillion & top box (trunk) it snakes at 80Mph.
Never had that with the K even up to 200 Kph. Solo or not.
Also I have over loaded the top box when camping with two chairs & a folding table on the top (where your rack is), never mind all the food insde the box. But then I did have a 7Kg tent strapped to the fairing just below the screen In 10 years of K ownership, I haven't broken anything luggage wise except the lock. But I knew a man who did break his (Martin R.I.P.).
My son, who now owns the Triumph listed below, also with a top box, won't take it above 100 MPH as " it shakes like a shitting dog" when it's fitted.
I am glad the K won the fight with the Yam.
