Just posting to say hello. Just purchased my first BMW and am in the process of breathing life back into it. It sat for a couple of years and needs a lot of work. Fairings are all worked and will require a repaint. I already had to replace the battery, ignition switch, rebuilt the front master cylinder and did all the std maintenance. I've already found the forum to have a load of info but here's my first question. What items should I be checking (that weren't already malfunctioning) in a bike that sat for 2 years without running? Thanks

Welcome.
Setting 2 years isn't all that bad, unless it was outside exposed to the elements.........
I'd say that if you haven't already, flush and change all of the fluids. Especially the brake fluid, keep it clean for best system reliability. I flush mine yearly in the spring. _________________ Ride safe.

Hi Paul,
Sounds like you are doing all the right things with fluid changes
I'd take a close look at the tires too.
If you can please post pictures of the bike. Closeup's of the fork seals would be helpful.
Cheers,
Sanjiv

I'd check over the ribber brake lines....hate for one to split because of old age. _________________ Mike Gullery

On a 93 LT I would strongly advise you to redo the heat sink compound on the ignition amp.
It looks like this and is bolted to the front left lower of the battery tray.
Take it off and fully clean all of the old crap off with steel wool or a wire brush or whatever. Then buy a small tube of heat sink compound from Radio Shack for about $5 and apply a healthy dose of it to the back of the ignition amp before reinstalling.
An overheating ignition amp will cause the early 4 valve Ks to run like crap. _________________ 93 LT (x2)
