are the Progressive 412 a solid option for 1 up and 2 up heavy loaded riding ?
I like the 5 preset option.
or do I need to go to the 465 series option ?
I do agressive country/mountain road/sport riding, light, or very heavy !
any info helps !

thanx

I'd get a Works Performance shock. Doesn't cost that much more and is a better shock.

If you are ordering from Works Performance, ask for my buddy, Tom, who's sales mgr there.
Mention my name.
He'll give you a bit of a break.
I do not receive any sort of kickbacks for sending him customers.

Hey Duck: I'm looking at changing my rear shock for next season. Just curious as to why you think the Works shock is better than the progressive shock ,, Also does the shorter shock affect changing tires or any other service to the rear of the bike .

Any one else?

Thanks : Hilton

Brand of shock is a personal choice.

I have a YSS Z series and I like it.

The biggest difference a shorter shock will make is when you go to put it up on the centerstand- it will take more oomph. But on the sidestand it won't be leaned over as far, which will actually be a good thing

Also if you get it leaned over hard in corners, you will scrape sooner than a stock height.

I have a Works shorter shock on mine.

Suggestion if you run one, be sure the sag is set properly. You also might want to grind a little off on the tangs of the centerstand where it would touch down (these are not the structural part of it). If leaned hard, especially in a bumpy corner, these touched first on mine. With these 2 adjustments, I can run a quick pace 2up without touching down on the mountain roads.

I have not experienced any issue with maintenance or tire removal. Tire removal is a tight fit, but I don't think the short shock has any effect on this.

Hmm, this discussion reminded me - it is time for me to send it in for a rebuild.

+1 on RAM.

Am happy with RAM as it was a BIG improvement over stock... but needed to adjust the damping higher than other posts indicate. I'm about 215lbs plus gear as well as ride two-up from time to time so weight is a factor

You will likely be very happy with either Works or RAM (or other high quality aftermarket) as they are a big improvement particularly when pairing with radial tires. Personal preference was to look for re-buildable and also weigh the expert experiences you will see on this forum.

Good luck and no need to "over" study in my opinion.

I have a Ram on my '97 and couldn't be happier.
If I don't ever get around to getting my Ohlins rebuilt for my '95 I'll get another Ram for it as well.

Why thank you kindly all for the kind words re: RAM. Cool

Over 600 shox sold now [ Kays ] and RAM have moved on to Classic Twinshox - primarilly prompted by my need for shox for my 1974 Airhead Cafe Racer ! That was 3 years ago and the range has now expanded to cover most Japanese, Italian and British bikes.

Here in the UK Ben Kingham [ K100 ] won the 2013 B.E.A.R.S. Championship outright using RAM shox and front progressive springs.

The latest product development is for Oilheads [ guess who's just bought an Oilhead !!! ]

And YES ..... the 10% discount I negotiated for K11OG folks is still available. There is a dedicated website [ www.ramshox.com. ] for more details.

Yes it is.

My inseam is 89 cm /35 inches. I flatfoot the RS with lots of bend in my knees- no need for a shorter shock here. Laughing

I'm not so long in the leg but being able to put the thing on the center stand easily is key for me,, they are close being an east coast company, and have Canadian distributors, that helps,,Thanks,,,
