Hello new to the forum here.
I have a 95 k1100rs that won't start does turn over. Side stand switch works, gauges work, battery is good, fuel pump sounds to be running when key is first turned on than shuts off. Any help is appreciated to get this bike running. _________________ 1995 K1100RS |

OK. First of all- welcome.
The fuel pump sounds normal. It should energize when you turn the key then shut off once it gets the fuel line up to pressure.
Some details from you-
-when did it last run?
-what is its maintenance history?
-do you have spark?
any other information?

Thanks.
The last time it ran was in November when I put it in the garage for the winter. I have not checked for spark. I have owned the bike for the last two years and haven't done alot to it other than oil changes and spark plugs. This is the first time it has acted up on me. I run fuel stabilizer in the last tank before winter each year. It has 45,000 mi on it and the PO was a buddy I worked with and he was up more on the maintenance than I am, but it has been running good for me. _________________ 1995 K1100RS |

I would check for spark first. If you try to start then remove the plugs, are they all wet?
I doubt it is fuel delivery- if the fuel line was cracked in the tank, the pump wouldn't cycle off. And while the fuel filter might need replacing, enough fuel would still get past to start up. _________________ John & Cathy

This happened to me just after I got mine.
That's how I learned that the bike won't start when on it's side stand

Pulled the second and fourth plugs both were wet with fuel and, both were firing. _________________ 1995 K1100RS |

Bones, I can see how that can happen. I was warned from my buddy when I bought it about that. _________________ 1995 K1100RS |

Any more thoughts on what to check next. I still have not found what is causing the no start. Thanks for any help. _________________ 1995 K1100RS |

My 1st suggestion would be to remove, clean with some electrical contact cleaner, the multi-pin connector on the top of the motronic computer, and re-seat it firmly. Check and clean any other connectors you can reach.
Another thought in the back of my mind could be the water temp sensor causing you to run excessively rich.
Wet plugs, so you have fuel,
plugs are firing,
2nd thing I'd check, look for any airflow restrictions, like maybe a critter nest in the airbox. _________________ Ride safe.

I didn't think of a critter nest that happened to me with my fourwheeler before. Is there a recommended air filter from napa or the such that can be used on these or are they pretty common to come across. I did notice something odd while checking things the fuel guage only worked up to the half way point prior to this. But now it is not even moving at all. I know I put close to three gallons in it when I got it to get it ready. Is there a plug I can check for corrosion and maybe see if it is getting power or for resistance on the guage. Also if anybody could send me a wiring diagram for it.

Not saying there can't be a generic version of air filter, but I can't say as I have heard of one. If it hasn't been chewed up, they can last up to 100K miles with just a regular "knock the dust out of it" treatment.
The plug for the fuel gauge, is the same plug for the fuel pump and low fuel level dash light.
Brown--ground
Green/White--fuel pump +12
White--low fuel level lamp(inst cluster)this line is grounded in tank to turn on light.
Yellow--fuel level gauge. this line is grounded in the tank thru a wipe resistor contact. _________________ Ride safe.
