Hi guys

My bike is a 1993 K1100LT.

Today I have noticed the following earth disconnected ...

Photo above is to illustrate general location of the earth. Photo below is to show the earth in more detail.

Does anybody know from where this earth is coming from which circuit(s) it is from? And where it should be connected? There is a bolt through the frame top left corner of the second photo but unfortunately the loose earth isn't long enough to connect there.

I should mention that the bike is running perfectly well, all lights etc are working.

Any insight would be gratefully received.

Could be the ground for the gas tank if it's a former police model, ..or the tank is from a police model.

Hi Inge

Yes, it was originally owned by the Police ... so please humor my ignorance further ...

Why would the Police model's gas tank have an earth whereas non Police models not? What circuitry/functionality did this service?

And ultimately - what am i missing out on with it being disconnected or should I connect it?

On the LT's there is a ground strap(like the one in your picture) that connects the radio antenna base(on the inside of the fairing) to the frame ground point under the fuel tank.

If your radio antenna is gone, chances are the loose end shown was formerly connected to the missing base.
